Just a reminder the current starting lineup -- from my understanding -- has been a net negative since January.

And btw, the Pistons have 134 fts this series. The Knicks have 110.

While defending every possession like the 100 dudes vs 1 gorilla challenge.

It’s all good tho.

I LIKE IT LIKE THAT!

From early on in the season, I have been saying the following (and many agree with this sentiment):

-> Thibs ain't it
-> KAT and Brunson together ain't it (lack of defense)
-> Hart as a starter ain't it (fine as a 24 min back up)

The world now realizes all of this. I'm confident these issues will be rectified come this off-season.

Either we lose in 7 to DET or we lose in 4/5 to BOS and then Thibs gets canned either way. It is the most plausible outcome to this middling season.

Like I said in the other thread, KAT will be Thibs' undoing for the second time in their careers.

KAT uniquely exposes the shortcomings in Thibs' philosophy because to get the most out of KAT you have to invert everything Thibs believes.

Benjy is absolutely correct in the sense that what separates Thibs from top coaches right now is his willingness to experiment during the season. He knows what he's looking for in practice and doesn't "promote" a player to games until he sees it consistently enough. That can work for a player's development but it is not great for data collection.

We learned nothing from game 1 to now and that is the biggest indictment on Thibs.

All great points.

I think it's clear at this stage that the front office needs to choose between the roster (especially with KAT at the 5) and the coach. The talent they put together is antithetical to Thibs's philosophy.

The last sentence rings true and is pretty damning.

I’d say we’ve seen enough to be there.

I’ll just add I don’t think anyone thinks this roster is complete. So Thibs might not be cooked on that front.

This is true but the avenues towards improving the team have narrowed significantly since the Mikal trade (which isn't to say they don't exist). This kind of stacks the odds slightly against Thibs. We shall see. I respect both KAT and Thibs to be honest and it's an unfortunate situation.

I don't think any avenue yields a great upside other than figuring out how to make KAT and Mikal work.

What will ultimately do Thibs in, IMO, is that the FO will feel like they can't waste another season when we didn't learn much this season.

Someone is going to hop on that whiteboard and show them everything we haven't been doing.

Like, I don't know if we would have been a better team with someone like James Borrego, but we would have score a sh*t ton more and that was the gamble with the KAT trade.

You lost me at nuanced basketball discussion.

Horrible use of the english language. Those words put together sound terrible. Putting a shutgun to the back of joys head. And the biggest issues is it's just nitpicking a baddie. Which is lame sht.

 generally i agree but as a person i get an itch when anyone's protected or exempt from smoke. only person above the law in my eyes is thegreenarrow and he's done more to earn that than any player on this roster

It's not surprising some of those numbers you mentioned went up - the Knicks lost two of their top three playmakers in the offseason. I don't think those numbers in a vacuum support your argument.

I read everything you wrote, but I'm just responding to this because I think it is the most poignant part. Nothing happens in a vacuum, so it is hard for me to say Brunson disappointed relative to expectations when the entire ecosystem that the expectations were set in changed. What you see as underperforming, I see as largely overcoming.

As for the return from injury, we can disagree, that's fine. His ankle issues have crept up again fairly rapidly, which to me suggests that it's not out of the realm of possibility he came back too soon. And we know he had an incentive to return when he did. Perhaps I'm wrong and you're right, and the recurring ankle problems are just bad luck.

My thoughts are if the ankle is hurt, it's hurt. An extra week wouldn't have mattered and using playoff games to adjust to long layoff certainly isn't ideal and would have had it's own repercussions.

Interesting - I think we're just looking at it from different emotional angles.

At the end of the day, I do think that his level of play has suffered a bit, whether we explain this by the changing environment around him or we put the onus on him for not adjusting optimally. But this isn't immutable and it's entirely possible he returns to last year's level (albeit in a different way and with different circumstances) next season. We know the offseason is key for a lot of players.

all jokes aside, we really should be able to do this.

Feels like we're about to repeat the cycle of treating ewing and melo terribly for the team not supporting em properly.

I mean even the greatest weren't perfect - jordan and bron had their issues. So going in on Brunson feels really lame. Especially at THIS time in a game 5 playoff thread. But hey who tf am I to talk about propriety.

i looked it up. he is. he's averaging 11.2 on 58. percent. that's more than everyone else in the top 10 and the 2nd best percentage only to pascal who is at the rim a lot more often.

the only reason we're up in this series is because he's saved us several times. yeah, he misses some passes he should make and last year he might have looked a little more unstoppable. but he's the last guy to complain about.

to put this into perspective

DET was a top 5 fouling team in the regular season

NYK was a bottom 5 fouling team in the regular season

somehow DET a team that fouls a ton vs the Knicks who don't foul is getting a bunch more FT's per game with a looser whistle? Make it make sense.
