Luka is my fav but I'm SOO damn tired of people jumping on anyone trying to hold him accountable for this issue. It's not about what he brought, it's about how much he's leaving on the table and how much of that he gave right back in his last 2 playoff series. Luka needs to be in shape to even have a chance of guarding anyone without as much help as he currently needs. He's even now smoking layups. Worst is he slimmed down months ago and went back to looking chunky heading into the playoffs. Like how?? Even Shaq wouldn't do that. I can pull up a quote of the Mavs GM saying the exact same thing after Mavs lost the finals.

At this point I'd argue the enablers and weight deniers are doing more damage to his career than anyone holding him accountable.

The first-year coach mentioned that the Lakers roster must "get in championship shape" this offseason, via multiple reporters. Redick mentioned that multiple players were in "phenomenal" shape, via The Athletic's Jovan Buha, but that others could have been in better shape.

It isn’t anything Luka hasn’t heard from his coach/team since he’s been in the NBA. Will he listen this time?

facts. That's the way it works.
:o LeBron is 0-7 in game winning/tying FGs in the finals. And is 20/116 or 17% in game winning/tying FGs in the 4th/OT for his career. That's historically bad :o

Also, ozempic is available. I think Zion got on that since he came back and looked in shape and was dominating. Why isn't Luka taking that? It should be mandatory.

Did Luka being out of shape force JJ to not play a center?

Well, he has a center in Luka as his fitness is often getting compared to centers conditioning (Joker, Shaq, etc...) :P

Was Westbrook, then Darvin Ham, and now Luka. Wouldnt be surprised if he bolted LA for Denver at some point to play with the Joker. He is far from the only issue that plagued LA in the playoffs.

Pro athletes need to be in great shape, any player that is triggered by this comment should probably need to change up their diet and/or exercise more. Obviously if everything remains the same, they aren't going to get very far next year either.

I wonder how he'd take it if players commented on his poor rotations and dumb ideas on how to play without a big.

Also, i am pretty sure he will critique everyone but one particular player. I've not yet seen him say a word to LeBron. He knows he's only there because of him. So spare us the drama, Reddick.

It's absolutely fair criticism, and necessary criticism, we had lots of arguments about Luka early in the season because we thought it was unacceptable to show up in such shape when the goal was crystal clear for the 1st time in his career, winning a championship.
Luka failed his team this year, we didn't give it a lot of thought becaue it's been 6 years of the other way around and Mavs have failed him repeatedly, you don't turn around and trade him after you, Nico Harrison, have given him disgrace of a roster to play with in 23.
This also doesn't excuse the venom against him on this board, as a 7th year already more accomplished than a lot of HoFers...

Jason Kidd said something similar while Luka was on the roster.

NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.

no

as if luka's body type hasn't been talked about enough,,, and never wanted to leave Dallas, bringing up this issue all over again is a sure fire way to get canned.

He will not be in shape. He does what he wants, he is a big kid. Going to go binge drinking in Slovenia this summer and eating grilled ribs with potato salads and just gaining fat.

Luka is in decent shape but would be better IMO if he were 10-15 lbs lighter.

Playing heavier has its advantages (ask Fat Kevin Love), but better stamina isn't one of them.

Redick has said on his old podcast, I believe, that everyone knew Luka could dial in his fitness habits more.

That's not the same thing as what Nico was saying, however. Nico was blaming Luka for his injuries (Luka's team said, instead, that he was coming back from injuries too quickly) and he said Luka's body would break down because of his fitness.

Luka has never had a major injury, unlike Nico's saviors Kyrie and Anthony. No surgeries yet, and Luka has been playing pro for a decade. By the time Irving and Davis were Luka's current age, each had had at least one surgery.

I think what Nico is predicting is that sooner or later, Luka will have a major injury, as most players seem to get injured while playing his minutes. If that happens, he does not trust Luka to do the recovery work needed and will most likely become even more overweight.

there will be no problem then in the offseason to set up a trade between Murray and Luka since the Lakers fans who comment on the Nuggets series praise Murray and bashing Jokic... there will be no problem to have the 2 fat bastards play together
