This guy really wants to come in here and be the face of the breakup? Does he think he's John Henry?

Who knows where the leak is coming from. It could be from the Celtics new ownership + Wyc to soften the blow on the fans once they start selling off pieces of a title team. It could also be from rival GMs who are salivating over the prospect of getting good players from us at a bargain.

That's a problem for another day.

Right now NY is an obstacle.

Get Banner 19 then we'll talk about leaks.

Last dance for this Celtics core? Shams saying payroll changes coming this summer.

The Celtics have Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown on supermax contracts, while Derick White, Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis are each on expensive contracts of their own.

"They have five players right now scheduled to make $28 million or more next season. That's a league record. They would have a salary bill of $500 million. I think the Celtics knew when they traded for Jrue Holiday and they traded for Kristaps Porzingis, they'd be staring at this in the face this summer.

Yep, I thought this was always going to be a 2-year window coinciding with Tatum ascending to that top-tier dude. Their upcoming payroll would be unprecedented and without their own arena, they're looking at some short term losses. Repeating may be the only way they'd keep the top 6 and even then, I'm still not sure they'd do it.

Windhorst said that if they don't make moves to shed salaries, their payroll would be around $450 million or more next season. Their total revenues is about $450 million a year. Also, $450 million is more than what the current ownership paid for the team 20 years ago.

You're in the wrong thread. This thread is about the Celtics sale and the new ownership unwillingness to continue footing the bill for the roster.

Which some of us are absolutely interested in discussing.

This thread is just about the steam getting sold to Bill Chisholm. That's old news now.

There's nothing new/newsworthy that Chisholm has done since the sale was announced. he's Gone to some games, kissed babies, shook hands and that's it.

So there's no real need for this thread to be active right now imo.

We have a separate thread to discuss potential/completed trades, FA moves, transactions - none of which can happen till the offseason..seems like Fierce1 isn't interested in discussing that stuff in that (trade/FA) thread until the offseason.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Incorrect. The team isn't sold and it's pending. What he's going to do with this team while the team is in pending sale is totally relevant to the process.

Feel free to frequent the threads you find relevant whatever your interest are but back seat modding here is lame. Thanks guys.

Yesterday's update about Chisholm being able to acquire the needed funds ("oversubscribed" even) and that the first tranche of the sale being completed next week is significant development imo. Them ironing out the details of the sale and the league approving it around June only helps in the Celtics in their roster decision-making in the offseason.

How the Celtics end this season will influence the roster decision-making in the off-season.

Maybe if the Cs don't make the finals, the change will be more drastic.

So the only significant news is the new owner finally has enough money to buy the Cs.

All the other stuff is just noise.

Who the decision-makers will be is gonna influence the decision-making. The sooner the sale goes through, the sooner they can forge a path forward with the roster construction. And yes, postseason success/failure is a factor but not the only factor.

I don't see any changes happening to the sale.

It's going to be Chisholm.

So I don't think the "who" is an issue.

The sale is really not in any danger because the NBA has a vested interest in this sale.

According to a report I read, the sale of the Celtics will determine the price of the expansion team/s that will join the NBA soon.

Simply put, it's a done deal.

It's going to be Chisholm.

It's not only Chisholm. He's not that rich. There are several entities involved. Thinking Chisholm alone is gonna influence what the roster looks like next season is dumbfoundedly naive.

If there's nothing significant or additive posters can contribute to the thread, they can easily stay away and just post on the game threads or whatever. JMO.

EDIT: Whether or not the sale will go through is not the issue. The timing of the sale however is critical. Imagine if this dragged on past the offseason. Will it be status quo in terms of roster/finances? Do Chisholm and company have a say with what Brad is gonna do in the summer?

Everything is speculation at this point in time.

Of course it's not only Chisholm who will influence the decisions.

But if he's the majority share holder then he's the most influential.

Some of you are just overblowing the narrative that Chisholm is not that rich.

Timing of the sale is just being dramatic.

No owner will operate a business at a loss.

Common sense tells us the new ownership just spent 6 billion on the Celtics and they're going to spend another 400m+ on payroll and luxury tax?

Of course changes will be made to the roster for financial reasons.

Believing otherwise is just being in denial or whatever other reason.

There used to be another poster who refused to quote the user they were responding to and just spewed into the sun nonsense.

I wonder if this is their burner account.

I’m not talking about his overall wealth but if you go back through the whole thread my takes on the amount of $ he put into the team were in fact way ahead of things
