Maverick's New Arena Thread

Post#1 » by WC NBA Fan » Tue Apr 22, 2025 10:45 pm

Anyone have any thoughts on where you would like to see a new arena? Do you prefer a downtown location? Does it matter if it's in Dallas or outside the city?

The Adelson’s already own the land in Irving, TX where the old Texas Stadium was. If they put the arena (and casino) in the city I could see them putting it where the jail currently sits. I read recently that they are already considering moving the Lew Sterrett Justice Center in order to develop the land the jail sits on. If they wanted to build an easily accessible arena/casino in the city that would be a perfect spot to put it.

Thanks for the input. I'm guessing there are DART stations near that as well

There are certainly levels of the stupidity that has occurred in one season.

These idiot owners get denied gambling. They trade Luka, raise ticket prices, and are granted the right to gambling/casino. Who would of thought at the beginning of the season that Luka would be traded and that our team will be relocating to Ft. Worth.

Just leave Dirk's statue where it's currently placed once the team leaves.

Technically Irving is still in Dallas County. The residents in Irving protested the zoning change for the casino but word is they have been making a lot of political contributions in Irving and in Texas. They’re going to get their casino.

Not sure how many of you guys live in Dallas or how many listed to sports talk in Dallas. We have a radio station called The Ticket and one of the hosts named Junior Miller (who’s pretty respected in the sports world, he’s not just a radio guy) has an interesting observation about the Adelson’s and our Mavs.

He tells this story here about while he was on vacation he read a story about how the Oakland A’s move to Vegas came to fruition and it sounds identical to what is happening to the Mavs. I know we’ve been told countless times (even by the commissioner) that the Mavs are not moving to Vegas but if what Junior Miller happens they are in fact moving the team to Vegas.

Anyways it’s an interesting listen.

As long as it is not in Arlington and there is a DART train that stops near the arena. Arlington sucks because there is no public transportation.

At this point probably it would be good if the Adelsons take away the Mavs with all trash (Kidd, Harrison, Dumont etc etc) and Dallas has a fresh start.

The situation is desperated.

Indeed.
That would be ideal but he doesn't seem knowledgeable enough to realize.

I could respect him more if he would just clean house.

As long as there’s not a massive city bond to help out the robber barons from Vegas, I could care less.

AAC is fine

Supposedly, they have zeroed in on a few sites in the Dallas city limits. Not sure where they are though

There will be no move to Vegas, Vegas can't give 1/3 of what DFW gives in ticket sales and merch sales, it makes much more sense to buy the Pelicans and move them to Vegas than the Mavs.
If they are stupid enough to do it, and drug Silver to approve it, I doubt Dallas spends more than a single season w/o a team, as 10 owners will fight to get hold of the DFW market.
Defense wins draft lotteries!

The Adelson’s already own the land that is directly across I-35 from where the American Airlines Center currently sits. That’s where the Mavs corporate offices are located.

I’ve also heard Cuban talk about the area where Trinity Groves is now in West Dallas. The Adelson’s don’t own that property though.

The area I think the new arena is going to go (casino or no casino) is in Irving where the old Texas Stadium was. The Adelson’s do own that land and have already cleared it out and they have rebuilt the walkway bridge that connects the parking to the site the arena will be. It’s a huge area with room to grow.

I agree.

Pels owner, Gayle Benson, has been on record to say she will only sell if the team stays in New Orleans.

I think they are going to build the Mavs arena near the rebuilt Dallas Convention Center. The entertainment district will connect the stadium to the new convention center.

That would be ideal for sure because it would keep the team in Dallas instead of moving to one of the suburbs. As of right now though the Adelson’s don’t own that land. Just to be sure you’re talking about the area where Houston St enters downtown Dallas right? Where the old Reunion Arena parking garage was/is? Last I heard they are talking about putting another huge park in that area (similar to Clyde Warren Park). That would be an ideal spot for the team to play though.

Shameful behavior. Stay vigilant. Oppose the waves of shills incoming

"Sands would sponsor supporters, hiring people to attend the commission meeting in Irving three days later. A recruit was offered $250 and free food, according to text messages between the recruit and Echo Canyon Consulting, a firm employed by Sands. “Reminder – you are there as a citizen, not on behalf of [Echo Canyon Consulting],”

Psychotic. It didn’t make sense. I don’t know how you make it make sense
