Gregg Popovich will continue to play an important role in the day-to-day operations of the San Antonio Spurs, according to Shams Charania.
"I'm told Gregg Popovich will continue to be a vital part of the Spurs' day-to-day operations. He has even been in the facility over the last several days, preparing with staff for the Mitch Johnson era," said Charania.
Popovich officially stepped down as Spurs head coach on Friday, citing the physical exertion of the job as he recovers from a stroke.
Mitch Johnson was named the head coach of the Spurs.
