Best offers for Milwaukee '29 pick, and '28 and '30 swaps from Portland
Portland has been mentioned a couple of times as a 3rd team in Giannis threads, because of controlling their picks in 28, 29, and 30. Picks that currently look like they could have some decent value, with Dame's injury, and the uncertainty of around Giannis.
Was looking for some non-Giannis centered trade ideas, where teams maybe later want to leverage Milwaukee, but also just want to land potential decent pick and swaps.
I think Portland is likely to be aiming for the playoffs next season. Not "All-In" by any means, but looking to make that next step.
Portland is currently slotted at 10th this year. Can combine that as well. Large expirings in Ayton(35.5) and Simons (27.6) could help to match salaries. Expirings in RW3(13.2) and Matisse(11.5 PO) as well.
Nobody is truly untouchable, but I think Portland really likes their frontcourt trio of Clingan, Avdija and Camara.
So was curious what pieces might be available to the Blazers to try to make that next step to a playoff level team.

The real juicy Milwaukee picks for any Giannis trade are the 2026 and 2027 1sts controlled by New Orleans.
Those picks are the first shoe to drop on a Giannis deal.

I'm sure someone could start a thread about those if they were so inclined.

Kind of hard to trade for swaps without trading for Portland firsts.

Shouldn't the swap be transferable?
For instance, OKC assumes they will be a title contender in 2028. And they assume Giannis will ask out, and that pick could be top 10. So OKC trades X for the swap rights, so that now they swap THEIR pick with the Milwaukee pick instead.

Don't think it works that way. Milwaukee agreed to the swaps on the basis of them being with Portland.

what you can do is Portland agree to swap the better of its 2028 or MIL 2028 1st with team X, then team X agree to swap its better of X/POR/MIL 2028 1st with MIL's worst of the 3.... i think that would work

Exactly! If anyone is interested you can go to the realgm draft picks owed page and look at Phoenix because they have several picks where they've traded multiple swaps.

I'll start the bidding at Lauri for all those Milwaukee picks and swaps + Jerami Grant and filler. I suspect Portland may get more & it obviously depends on what end of the "strong feelings on Lauri" spectrum you are on.

No knock on LM, but with Camara and Avdija POR should be looking to upgrade elsewhere.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

Portland doesn't have some transferrable 'right to swap' with Mil. Portland has the better of their own 1st and the Bucks 1st. Mil has the lessor of their own 1st and Portland's. That can't be changed without involving Mil.
Some transferrable 'right to swap' is never what's dealt. That's not a thing.

This is correct Portland owns the swap rights and the picks from Milwaukee. What they could do is trade the pick and modify the swap rights if they’re incentivized with players or picks from another team. The issue for the Bucks is that New Orleans and Brooklyn have control of their soonest picks.

I think that makes a lot of sense. Honestly, I don't think they should look for upgrades by trading picks just yet.

Nobody is giving up anything significant for those picks until they see what New Orleans does with their Milwaukee picks first.
