2024-25 East Cross Standings Draft - Semi - Fadeaway vs Larry Russell*

Post#1 » by durantbird » Fri May 2, 2025 10:44 am

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

PG: White (38) / Curry (10)
SG: Allen (38) / Curry (10)
SF: Leonard (38) / Williams (10)
PF: Pierce (38) / Williams (10)
C: Mourning (38) / Biyombo (10)

87.9/88

Lets go with this for defensive matchups:
White on Lowry
Kawhi on McGrady
Allen on Pippen
Pierce on Wallace
Mourning on Mount

I actually matchup quite well here.
Claw takes on the toughest scoring cover and most of the offensive punch on Fades team.
White gives me an awesome cover for Lowry
Allen will cover Pippen, I know that many view Allen as a poor defender, but in his peak allen was an above average defender and was very good at covering his position. He will be able to do a good job on Pippen as he has the athleticism to stick close enough to close out if Pippen decides to actually shoot from the 3pt line while playing off of him a bit.
Pierce takes on Sheed and while he gives up some mass to him, Sheed wasnt scoring enough points to really be a huge concern here.
Mourning takes on the offensively absent Mourning while being the athletic rim protector that can help when needed.

Offensively I prose a problem.

I have 3 great offensive individual weapons that together pose an issue for opposing defenses.

Sheed is not going to be able to keep up with Pierce on the outside creating, that is going to really force the defense to move and switch which lets my 3 point shooters rain down.
Pippen has to guard Klaw, that makes sense. Tough matchup there but thats ok because..
McGrady has to try and defend Ray Allen. This McGrady is all about his offense, and he is going to have to run around trying to keep up with prime ray allen.
If Fade decides to try and put McGrady on White and have Lowry cover Allen I think that will not work either and Ray has the size and athleticism to make that matchup bad, and I think White has too much speed for McGrady to cover, causing blowbys and defensive switches.

Basically I have:
Awesome defense anchored by an awesome rim protector
Lethal offense with 4 points of attack, 6 3pt shooters, 5 guys who create, 2 lob threats and a low post scorer.
Great utility bench pieces who can defend, shoot threes and rim run and fit seamlessly with the starters.

Total: 87.7/88.0

Our build combines lockdown defense with a dynamic perimeter helmed by T-Mac and Pippen, arguably the best wing pairing in this draft. Pippen complements T-Mac's dominant three-level scoring with his own explosive slashing and transition game. Lowry slots in as the ideal third option who can create shots for himself and others. Lowry pushing the ball with T-Mac and Pippen on the wings should get us plenty of easy points on the break. Defensively, the combination of Deke, Sheed, Pippen, and Lowry is suffocating, especially given that all four are elite team defenders in addition to their individual abilities. Hill, Majerle, and Highsmith all bring valuable 3-and-D skills off the bench.

Matchup
- Defensive assignments are straight up. Sheed on Pierce isn't great, but he does take away Pierce's physicality advantage, and Deke helping behind him is a key factor. We'll manage the rotations so that Pierce is frequently matched up against Highsmith, who is an excellent wing defender. Needless to say Pippen is a great cover for Kawhi.
- Larry has his own matchup issues with Allen lacking the size and athleticism to stay with Pippen off the dribble or in the post. Also, 2019 Kawhi is someone who needs his workload carefully managed; I'm not convinced he can deal with chasing T-Mac around in addition to his offensive responsibilities without starting to wear down.
- The tandem of Deke and Sheed should be able to put a dent into Zo's offensive production.

Good luck Larry.
