Kyshawn is the son of a former pro basketball player from Canada. Some of his well-rounded game and bball IQ might come from lessons he learned from his dad.

I think there might be something else going on regarding the rest of his game . The way he plays position defense reminds me of Deni. Teenagers might get better coaching overseas than they get here.

This writer for ‘No Ceilings” showed a lot of love for George and his potential when he wrote about him prior to the draft. I’m giving props to his basketball-playing dad, Deon, who raised him in Switzerland, for Kyshawn’s “feel for the game.”

by Albert Ghim, Feb 01, 2024

With us now creeping toward the tail end of this college basketball season, we’re starting to see some late-bloomers arrive at the party, and one of the hottest names in the scene is Miami’s Kyshawn George. George is being talked about all over the Draft Twitter space and is gaining a ton of steam. I’ve even seen some people compare him to guys at the top of most people’s draft boards, like Cody Williams of Colorado.

One of the most difficult things to quantify when breaking down a prospect is their feel for the game. I think for most, it’s probably an amalgamation of several things. The ability to feel and function in the flow of the game, making the right quick decisions, and advanced reads, some mix of all that. When it comes to Kyshawn George, you can feel it in your plums that the man has feel for the game.

As I did my deep dive into Kyshawn, it was interesting to see how his teammates and coaches described his game. If you watch some of the videos I shared below, you’ll see how almost anyone you ask about Kyshawn’s game will mention his IQ. They always talk about how smart he is and how mature his game is. When thinking about feel and what it means to me, I think it has a lot to do with basketball IQ, awareness of self and teammates, and the ability to read the floor and make advanced decisions to manipulate things you see to your advantage.

I'm proud watching our pups growing up.... Everybody was panicking after 30 games like they all suck, Deni is better and now they are playing much better......

Kyshawn has been a massive surprise with his abilities far exceeding his scouting report.... Definitely more adept with handling the ball, facilitating offense, playing defense, in addition to his ability to shoot it from long range..... Our scouting department is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than it's ever been and it's reflective in there choices in players.... Can't wait to watch them going forward even though next years 1st might be in serious jeopardy with this group growing up so fast.....

If all goes well we have a starting caliber 2-way wing for many years.

Ernie G and Tommy Shepp never would have drafted talented a guy like Kyshawn George.

He's no Jan Vesley or Johnny Davis.
Bye bye Beal.

Given his surprising playmaking, is he a bit more Deni than Ariza?

Folks are sleeping on Kyshawn. I love his game. He's our future Derrick White.

Kyshawn's playmaking helps to make him special. The vision and passing he displays in the 2-3:30 mark of this video says it all.

We need a rim protecting/lane filling Big. With a menace in the middle players will check up for a moment and hesitate before attacking, stall out in the midrange. That will give KyG opportunities not only challenge shots but deflect and steal them. All of our perimeter defenders have to do too much right now covering all the ground by themselves. We need an anchorpiece on defense, and a rebounding corps around them. Even if we have to grow our own both ways by bulking up getting strong.

Kyshawn said he’s 6’9” in shoes now.

He was 6'7" without shoes at the combine, so that would mean he grew maybe 0.5 to 0.75 inches.

I can’t stand the idea of measuring players “with shoes” what the heck is that? Makes no sense. When I wear f’in boots with 3 inch heels I’m a power forward?? Bunch of bull
Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.

Do they play barefoot? He’s not talking about the combine. Just his height in the line up. Nobody is listed by their nekkit foot height.

yes they are. The with shoes thing is being discouraged now. They only measure without shoes at the combine.

Bub measured 6'3.75 and is listed at 6'4.
Sarr measured 6'11.75 and is listed at 7'.
