Re: Dallas Mavericks 2025 Trade thread -- Roster and Cap
Man, nobody wants 40 year old Lebron here. He's still stat padding himself to break records. He can do that in LA.
If AD is closing games at the 5, then PJ at the 4 would be your closing lineup. It's Gaff that becomes expendable with his new deal coming up. That man is about to get Vucevic type money. You do not want to be the person handing him that check for 4 years. Gaff for a 2 guard should do it. Just to keep the guard play afloat until Kyrie is back at 100%. ACL tears are not like they are used to in the 90s. He'll be back soon.
Gaff for Coby White makes a lot of sense. White is 6'5, Kyrie is 6'2. They can play together. The new guy need not be another 20ppg scorer/ all star. That's unrealistic.

The more the (Mavs) offseason unfolds, the more a KD trade doesn't look like a good fit. Kyrie + AD surrounded by this depth is still great. But if you send out all that depth for KD, you're creating more problems.
I'd personally like Gaff for Herb Jones because NOLA doesnt have any centers. But Herb can't make plays so he doesn't solve that problem. This largely depends on who they draft in a few weeks. If by some miracle they move up or a playmaker falls to 11, then that solves it. You can just trade Gaff for someone else.

Well.. jokingly said, if you want to trade with a team desperate for a center, there is no better team to trade with than the Lakers

PJ will also have to get paid soon and i'm not sure how valuable he still is to Nico since he's been playing not too good without Luka on his side.

Reaves and Herb are worth much more than Gaff.

I think you can keep one of PJ or Gaff on a new deal. The thing with PJ is he's unable to play SF for long stretches. Klay / Naji should be a good SF rotation. I really think they should swap PJ and Gaff for a SG with more firepower. But with what they can afford, they'd probably end up with someone like Jordan Poole. Guys that have little to no trade value. Poole. Thybulle. D'Lo. Those types. I'd imagine Atlanta would be willing to give up anyone on their roster that's not named Trae Young for Dereck Lively.
Caris Levert for Lively?

Yea that’s what I’ve been thinking too. Gaff/Klay to LA for Reaves/Hayes/draft pick. Mavs get their PG and a serviceable backup Center to replace Gafford.

Lively is probably close to untouchable on this roster. Still on a rookie contract, young and very promising talent. Injuries are the only concern but i guess Nico doesn't have a problem with that since he desperately wanted AD.
But Gaff+Lively+AD is not going to work, that's pretty much clear. So odd man out will always be Gaff. Luka loves him and told him they'll play together again... Now, do the math

I was a bit joking in my other post but i actually wouldn't be surprised if Pelinka calls his best buddy and asks for Gafford/PJ package. No clue what they discussed in their last dinner meeting before Luka flew back home but i won't be surprised if they'll try to replicate Mavs 2.0 on the Lakers.
But Mavs can realistically target a lot of players with Gafford+ Lakers pick. The most obvious ones would be those who can score and do some playmaking.

Yea Gafford is their best asset right now. And I still like PJ and want him to stay but by no means is he untouchable (same goes for Klay). There are a couple of youngish PG’s they can trade for. Or there will be a couple of big moves that the Mavs could potentially get into a 3-way trade.

I just hope Nico doesnt gift Gafford to Lakers.
If he wants to win now, there os no reason to help improve a western competitor. If we trade Gaff, I hope it is to an eastern team.

Gafford is good when motivated... If he has to be Lively backup i think he will give up.
Honestly i don't know who is better, d-Liv seems heavy injury prone and both fit bad with street clothes.
Probably we need to shake the entire roster, those guys were great along Luka. Now it's different.

Lively is a much better player, but yeah, he can't be trusted to stay in court, Gafford is an iron man, no idea how he came back from that injury this fast.

Dallas is built like the Indiana Pacers but not coached like the Indiana Pacers. Dallas depth will be an advantage. Cant expect AD and Kyrie to play 82 games a year. This should be where that depth of having PJ come in. If Nico is in the mood of sending another gift to LA, then Gaff is the one to give.

Nico finally started cleaning the mess he created. Let's see if Dumont is smart enough to fire him eventually. Complete idiots running that team now.

This is good news. Let's hope the replacements are better as it can't get worse then what we had this year.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2025 Trade thread -- Roster and Cap
I like Gaff but he's the best player trade option we have right now and he's superfluous at this point. 28 mpg from Lively and 20 mpg from AD at C is what should happen. PJ moving playing around 15 mpg at SF and 15-20 mpg at PF. With someone like Kai Jones as a 3rd string.
Backcourt help is what's needed. This team is starving for a creator, particularly with Kyrie out for an extended period.

Still think we need 3 legit centers on this team not including Davis. Powell is not legit so I'd sign Jones and either draft Maluach or sign Brown, Sharp to have some serious size/length insurance considering Lively's injury history.
I like Jones as a possible rotation guy but I'd still feel more comfortable with a 7'2+ option if we lose Lively for any length of time.
Gaff is as good as gone and I only hope Nico can get equal or better value in return.

He said he fired Casey Smith and replaced him with better staff and now he's cleaning house because that staff, not only couldn't get along with each other, but they were seriously incompetent as well lol. Just shows what kind of horror show this year has been and how terrible as a GM Nico actually is.
