Re: Sixers 2024-25 Season Thread Part 1
the thing with a star trade is that Biid or Maxey probably need to be involved for contract purposes unless they just take PG and a ton of picks...which I think gets beat by other teams with actual prospects to add..
its a pipe dream. Accept that its at the very least time to just let things play out if not just outright say its over and do what must be done lol. there is no move that can be done that makes us a contender next year sans giving Biid new knees on top of said move lol. Best case scenario is that we get Flagg or Harper or whoever, they are legit or ROTY and we eak into the playoffs as a frisky team with the "hope" of bu-but what if Biid is healthy doe. The likely scenario is that we are mid but play in mid probably after Nurse gets thrown under the bus after a sluggish start...with the delusion of bu-but wh-what if Jo is healthy mayne. The negadelphian outcome is that we lose our pick and have another season from hell and only the truly sick in the head of us are going bu-bu-but biid will come back yall...pls....<shoots self>. No scenario that we end next year as a legit contender no matter what moves are made...and I hope the FO realizes that.
they are in job saving mode tho sooooooooo

Top 4 protected from OKC, otherwise its ours 2026. Let's get it.
Least favourable from OKC/HOU/LAC in 2026!
Top 8 protected 2027. Let's get it.
Unprotected Clippers in 2028!
Hate to say it, but Trade Maxey for a haul.
Sign & trade Grimes & Yabu for picks.
If Embiid can play on... trade for picks.
Let's process the **** out of the league.
I'm broken.
I feel you with the broken bit. I think if we keep our pick and get a good young player, then it's pretty much guaranteed we lose our pick next year.
So we bring TOp 5 pick + Grimes/yabu on friendly deals back and try to run it back in a year we don't expect a pick. As i think that is actually not enough, the goal would be to build up everyone's value to gut the team in summer trades and rebuild around your top 5 pick and every asset you can get for the next couple drafts.

SixthStreet wrote:It would be stupid to make any all in move in the offseason for Giannis. Not sure why anyone is even discussing Jokic as a trade candidate.
Even if you get Giannis, he cannot level you up to contender status with just Maxey and the rotation. You still need Embiid to be impactful, especially defensively, and there is zero indication he can play that role.
Embiid’s situation creates a paralysis for any trade for a star in the offseason. This can be revisited at the deadline if, by some miracle, Embiid is actually still Embiid.
If we get to the trade deadline and Embiid is actually still Embiid - then the 6ers should immediately trade his asss for as much value as possible before he inevitably gets injured again.

So Comcast bought the naming rights to their own stadium?
Since I assume Flyers and Sixers split the naming rights revenue, am I to also assume this is part of the payoff that Harris gets for abandoning a better plan downtown?
Another payoff better be Silver rigging that lottery and the Sixers keeping their pick.

He literally cancelled on the downtown plan because he didn't want to over leverage himself while building the Washington football teams stadium, which was an easier situation.

You're saying the Sixers got screwed simply to serve the Commanders?
F Harris and all his companies.

My opinion, he's agreed to pay nearly 3 billion for this stadium. He was to pay for all of it in Philly.
He would need to liquidate something to pay for both at the same time.
So yes, he screwed Philly and all the strife that came with him campaigning for it.

Maxey/McCain
Grimes/Gordon
Paul George/Justin Edwards
Yabusele/Kelly Oubre
Embiid/Drummond/Bona
To further my point, this group of 11 players is built to keep the team stay afloat and compete if Embiid returns healthy, but can also pivot into a full tank if he’s unable to play next season.
That’s why for me re-signing Yabu and Grimes would be the biggest story in the scenario if we lose our pick. At the very least, Grimes would accept the qualifying offer, giving us flexibility to either push for wins or pivot to a rebuild depending on how things unfold.

Say we get 4th overall. Embiid looks like 70 percent of his peak form.
Maxey + Oubre + ‘25 first + ‘28 OKC 1st for Giannis
McCain Grimes PG Giannis Embiid
Butler Edwards Yabu Bona
Fun idea

Re: Sixers 2024-25 Season Thread Part 1
why are yall in such a hurry to trade Maxey lol
I swear he has been in trade talks since arriving here despite constantly getting better every season, showing up in the playoffs, and being an easy piece to build with.
regardless there is nothing right now that says we can rely on Biid staying healthy..so anything based off of that premise is a bad idea imo. Need to focus on a team that can win games without him; that way if by some miracle he does finally get through a season its a bonus that potentially elevates the team. Also that above lineup is helmed by a guy who is technically a rookie, a guy coming off a contract year, and 3 injury prone guys ;two of which who die in the playoffs and one who while great hasn't won in damn near 3-4 years no....plus IDK if that pairing actually works spacing wise.

Trading Maxey and assets to go in all-in on an Embiid / Giannis pair makes zero sense.

“There are only 3 teams who control more of the top of the draft than us” - Morey
Does he mean Sixers have the 4th most draft picks assets in the league?

Yes, relative to pick protection. Other teams may have more total picks. They owe picks to other teams but they're protected at the top, and they own picks/swaps without protection. He elaborated on this.

Guessing the other 3 are OKC, HOU, and SAS?
Aka the Giannis suitors.

Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Grimes/Edgecombe/Gordon
Oubre/Edwards

UTA owns a bunch of picks too, they could be in there.

Was there a quote recently that Morey was planning to run it back with washed veterans next season as well?

He basically said he's already started focusing more this season on having a younger team with Edwards, Grimes, Jared, Butler to go with Maxey and hopefully this year's pick

As pathetic as it would be, I'd almost respect Morey more if he insisted that Embiid, George, and Maxey are a 'Big 3' and it was just bad luck this season, so we're going to run it back. Admitting the obvious fact that the George signing and Embiid extension were dreadful mistakes this soon almost makes it worse that it even happened.
