Why him in particular versus any of the assistants? Or the head coach? Or…

It could be Carlisle as well soon, for sure. I mentioned Pierce because he coaches the defense.

Re: Lloyd Pierce
He had issues in Atlanta but it was never clear how true some of those were. It seems the players like him well enough here though? Same can be said for Jim Boylen with the Bulls. The defense is definitely bad, though a lot of that really is personnel. I'd say there are multiple issues compounding each other right now.
- Haliburton is obviously struggling
- The team is integrating Mathurin back in, as well as Siakam to a point still
- Our best wing defenders are injured
- Beyond losing both backup bigs, we were likely going to use Isaiah Jackson a lot as a lob threat off screens (Obi is a lob threat, but doesn't set good screens and just isn't a center at all)
- Jarace and the rookies are playing way more minutes than expected and are going to make mistakes
- Quinton Jackson has provided a surprising boost but he's still inexperienced and is someone most of us felt was not worth a 2-way at the start of the year
- Teams have adjusted how they play Indy and took notice after the playoff run
Even without injuries and Haliburton struggling, this was still supposed to be a building year. The team is in 8th place despite all of the above. Yeah it's because the East is pretty bad, but we're 3.5 games back from home court with 61 games to go.

I had a long post typed out and this horrible website has frozen up twice losing my post.

I don’t think we can blame the coaches for this season’s situation.
I don’t really know how much Mike Weiner or Lloyd Pierce contribute. I do see a lot of coaching and scrimmaging from Jenny Boucek. She’s a dedicated coach. I think Jim Boylan and Rick Carlisle do a lot of verbal coaching/teaching of the players.
I think losing our 2 back up centers, Nembhard, Nesmith, and now Sheppard are the biggest reason they have struggled to come close to duplicating last seasons performance. Our defense is gone. That also lessens quick transition points.
Secondly, Tyrese was not fully recovered from injury and tried to press on through and it showed in his lousy performances and hurt what’s left of the team trying to compete nightly.
Thirdly the Pacers had an over achieving season last year. Without all of the key players excelling again it’s going to be difficult to become a top contender.
Another point is they’re a very young team. There’s a lot of maturing/growth happening and consistency isn’t always there for Mathurin, Sheppard, Walker, and Nembhard as we’re witnessing. Hey at least there’s opportunity to grow.
Lastly the draft position was not optimal. Furphy at 19 years old is a future possible talent but too raw and has an undeveloped body that needs strengthening to compete in the NBA. Freeman is undersized and hustles but can’t make much impact. So developmental talent thrown into the mix adds to the nightly disadvantages this team faces.
Throw all these factors together and I can’t blame the coaching for the poor performance this season. I blame circumstances.
I do think as Veterans Siakam and Boomer are giving their all so far this season.

I’m sorry I forgot about coach James Johnson. Thank goodness we have him to carry hurt players to the locker room.
In all seriousness I hope him mentoring the youth is worth a roster spot because he’s worse than a G league player when it comes to playing.

You make a lot of good points. I think its a mixture of things. But their defense, some teams have a lay up line against us, u dont even see that in college. They give up a TON of points on the road. It's wild. But a lot of the issues you listed def make sense as well. Very frustrating season.

Could it be the team was not ready to make the leap to the elite level and getting Siakam was not the answer. Yes this team has a lot of injuries, Center is an issue especially at the 2nd unit. Will the team do something at or by the deadline? Or is it time to start to panic!

it could also just be time to be happy to miss the playoffs and get back into the lottery. in the meantime, there's football.

Agree with all your points,... with the young guys getting forced into contributing, this could help in the long run,... I've seen it posted a few times here,... and for me, it's the key,.... This team is built around Tyrese (or someone) pushing the ball on offense. So far,.. he simply hasn't been able to consistently do it. Even when he can, he doesn't have the pop & acceleration he had before the injury. I'm praying that it's just one of those things that takes a while to be right.
we force people to run on defense,.. to cover the wings, and react (by pushing the ball),... it should put them in a position where it takes them longer & they work harder to get into their offensive action,... as a result, we have a better opportunity to set our defense,... one affects the other. The defense last year wasn't good,... but at the end of the year it wasn't non-existent. We have stretches now where I will take last years defense as an improvement.
honestly,... not sure what to make of this year so far,... it's either a blip on the radar and things will round out in the end,... or it isn't & this is what we now are? Don't want to over-react,.. but also don't want to put my head in the sand. This just feels like we have to wait & see?....

Re: Lloyd Pierce
It's also true that our pace wore teams down but injuries have pushed some guys up to the second unit. Mathurin is back and Nembhard is coming back but no Nesmith, Sheppard, or iJackson.

Yeah,... I guess if I had to describe it,.. to me, this team just feels like it's disconnected,... like the players may be giving all they have, but they don't have the cohesion, the synergy they had last year. Again,... all of the points made here could lead to that result. A few others as well? Seems to be the difference between playing with each other and playing for each other, if that makes any sense?

What kind of device are you using? Phone, Laptop, Desk top? Also what browser do you use? Because I have not had any issues like this. I'm on a laptop, but use a desk top too. I use Chrome and have ad blocker running it doesn't block all the little ads but most of the intrusive ones.

You know if you don't mind wasting off a year of Haliburton's early prime you could go that way, but the point of getting Siakam was to make a leap into the elite and even if healthy I don't think this team is a top 3-4 team, couldn't compete with Boston or Milw if healthy.

iPhone 14 Previously I was helped by Wizop and the ad blocker he suggested worked and I upgraded my iPhone and now I can’t find the right free ad blocker to use for this phone.

It's probably one of the ads doing it. I don't know much about IPhone so I can't advise you on an adblocker,

Would love to see our defensive rating since i posted this. Defensive improvement has been one of the biggest storylines from this season for me besides all the crazy finishes.
