Doug Christie Retained By Kings As Head Coach On Multi-Year Contract

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Apr 29, 2025 4:05 pm

The Sacramento Kings will retain Doug Christie as head coach as the sides are finalizing a multi-year contract. Christie replaced Mike Brown as head coach of the Kings in December on an interim basis.

This offseason, the Kings and Monte McNair parted ways with Scott Perry replacing him to run the front office.

The Kings initially had a surge of success under Christie before eventually finishing ninth in the Western Conference. The Kings lost their Play-In game earlier this month against the Dallas Mavericks.

Good move, didn't seem that great with a 27-24 record...but actually did really well considering the circumstances. Coming in to replace a previous coach isn't easy, dealing with the Fox trade distractions/drama, acclimating new pieces after the deadline, dealing with the injuries and super tough schedule the last 20 games etc. I think he did a pretty solid job overall. He showed he was deserving of a real shot for a full 82 game season.

In terms of pure coaching/strategy/tactics he is much better than the severely overrated Mike Brown. The problem of this team is not the coach. It's the roster construction and the incompetent owner and FO.

Happy to see Christie get a full season to show what he can do, but unless significant changes are made (which the Kings front office already said they weren't doing), it won't be long before he's in the crosshairs.

Agree, MB I think really is overrated. Makes plenty of crucial errors and head scratching ideas. It's too bad, Monte looked liked he was doing alright then did a 180. Rested on his laurels 23-24, then the DeRo/Lavine mistakes last year.
