game 2-4 starting line up?

Post#1 » by cpower » Thu May 8, 2025 12:36 am

I think Steve will consider the following:

Looney Green Butler Podz Hield - defense defense defense
Post Green Butler Podz Hield - looks good on paper balancing O and D
Green GP2 Butler Podz Hield - Kerr's favorite small ball (i bet he goes with this)

I would try to get Post going, they are going to need some scoring from him. Defensively it hurts them but if they're hitting 3s it's going to be hard for the Wolves to keep up. Last game it was just Hield and Draymond and it still buried them, but if you can get 3 guys going from deep, it puts a lot of pressure on them. Not sure where Moody is at but Podz is certainly the most obvious guy other than Hield to go on a bombing run from deep.

I would probably try to save Loon for some critical situations, like he was great last game stabilizing them when the Wolves were going on a run, making smart plays and grabbing key rebounds.

When betting on Kerr, always take the under (sized)!

Not sure what it will be, but it should be
Podz
Hield
Butler
Green
Looney
--
Kuminga
GPII
Gui
Moody
Pat
Post

Let Green run point, Butler work the mid post, work in Kuminga and see who is hitting from 3. Loon is strong enough to bother Rudy and shots in the paint. Gui should get some minutes in this series vs the bigger, stronger team as well

Dray Jimmy Buddy Podz are in. The question is, who is their fifth?

Normally, I'd be more concerned about who finishes rather than who starts, but getting off to good starts will be crucial. My guess is that Kerr will go with Post or GPII. Loon off the bench is a great tool in this series.

I'm also betting that Kerr goes with different starting lineups to keep Minny off balance a bit.

It's gonna lean defense!

Hield
GPII
Jimmy
Dray
Looney

It's an insane lineup but maybe crazy enough to work.

I leaned towards Post because I think the Warriors are going to need more shooting in Curry's absence. And also Post can help draw Gobert out of the key, which I think is maybe the most important factor in this matchup.

But the benefit of GPII is he can bring the ball up under pressure and hand it off to Jimmy or Dray to run the offense.

I would be shocked to see this lineup play significant minutes. How are they gonna score?

Spacing is bad enough with two non-shooters. Not only does that lineup have three non-shooters, only Hield is a three-point threat. They'd be lucky to score at all.

Who else on the roster is going to reliably score in the starting lineup who doesn't bring their own limitations? Next in line is probably Podz. I keep hearing Post instead of Looney, and yeah, Post can score (when he does). But how much weakening of the defense can the team afford?

So the plan is to win 5-4?

It looks like it's going to be Podz, Buddard, Moody, Butler and Draymond.

Also you'd like to have Podz secondary ball handling.

Everybody on this team has limitations. In terms of weakening the defense of course you're losing Steph, who is an underrated defender but it's not like the Warriors don't have better defenders than Steph waiting in the wings - I don't expect a big falloff in defense without Steph. It's scoring that is the problem.

Post has also become a much better defender as the season has gone on and played good defense in game one.

To me Post makes a lot of sense as he is a threat to score from the three, which opens things up for the offense and probably draws Gobert out of the paint (depending on who they put Gobert on). He would be an option to provide some scoring. And he provides serviceable defense. It would be a bold move, with some risk, putting him into the starting lineup. But of course Kerr is not afraid to put even random guys into the mix. Maybe he'll start Pat Spencer :dontknow:

Every matchup is different but I like GPII and Post in this series.

It would be so great if Moody can find his shot. He has not inspired much confidence though. Wolves will probably put Gobert on him, who will play drop defense and make things very crowded around the basket.
