Somewhat true in that it'd be a major asset acquisition loss for us, but still, having his 54 million coming off the books in the summer of 26' and free agency having some very intriguing names in unrestricted free agency like:

https://www.spotrac.com/nba/free-agents/_/year/2026/type/ufa

James, Van Vleet, Irving, Harden, Ayton, McCollum, Fox, Middleton, Porzingis, Randle, Jackson Jr, Harris, Simons, J Collins, MIKAL BRIDGES, Aaron Gordon, Vucevic, Smart, Barnes, Robinson, Powell, Sexton, Z Collins, Nurkic, Hachimura, PJ Washington, Huerter, Clarkson, Reid, Mitchell Robinson, Finney Smith, Gafford, Melton, Holmes, Portis, Thybulle, Kleber, Conley, and many others!

And then the following summer in 27' Beal's 57 million would come off of our books and that's an even more loaded free agency

https://www.spotrac.com/nba/free-agents/_/year/2027/type/ufa

with huge names throughout all tiers (one such being Cam Johnson), Toumani Camara, Lou Dort, D Brooks, Hartenstein, etc and many, many others. So worst case scenario might actually not be all that worst case actually IF our front office could possibly utilize a modicum of actual strategic planning?? :dontknow:

Not getting anything for KD would be a major loss for us. With how few attractive tradeable assets we have left, it would be complete mismanagement to get nothing from KD's departure, including if he just walks for cap space.

I understand that and I completely agree with you man! My top desire is for us to somehow get a grouping of at least 2 young intriguing talents, a solid filler contract and two 1sts (preferably in this draft). And I still believe that there'll be some really solid- interesting offers this summer.

Although I am reasonably concerned with our new GM's lack of experience possibly resulting in us getting fleeced by a more experienced GM. Even more so if Ishbia is (almost certainly) still playing NBA 2K GM behind the scenes.

So I'm rationalizing a potential big letdown scenario similar to the Beal fleecing after everything Gregory confessed at his introductory conference. Ishbia being heavily involved and Bartlestein still being involved in every aspect of basketball decisions too seems pretty foreboding!

The only downside would be having to hear Ann Meyers Drysdale say "gesundheit" every time Kevin Ray goes "another hustle play by 'Achiuwa! '"

I believe he's an unrestricted free agent though this summer?

That's what I mean, he signed for 6 mil with the Knicks this past offseason, he has a better chance of getting big minutes with the Suns. Maybe we can Tyus Jones him on our roster this offseason with the promise of big minutes.

Have edited my OP to clarify my meaning.

Trade 1. There is no way the Rockets are giving up Amen Thompson for Morant.

Trade 2. There is no way the Bucks are trading Giannis to Houston without getting Amen Thompson back.

Trade 3. This is a CRAZY overpay for Anfernee Simons.

Trade 4. Out of these four options, this is the only one that seems reasonable value.

I wish the Suns hired you as their next GM. We need someone with street smarts and book smarts they go hand and hand together.

Surprised to see Amen in a Ja trade but not for Giannis. No way that package gets a Giannis deal done. I like the KD package though.

I don't have any confidence in the new GM's abilities. My confidence level is not tied to his actual ability though so if he shows ability, my confidence would naturally adjust. The problem with bringing in an ex-coach to fill a GM role is they rarely work out. There are just so few who have done well and generally, these are coaches who have actually done really well prior to transitioning to a GM role like Pat Riley and Brad Stevens. Far more of them are your Doc Rivers, SVG's, Isiah Thomas etc. Pops is a bit of an exception because he was both POBO/Coach while Spurs also had a GM but that's besides the point.

Some info by Gambo about the new HC:

Since Friday/Saturday Gregory has been doing zoom interviews with 14-15 candidates. Those interviews are taking about an hour asking about identity, accountability, defense, substitutions...

Gambo repeatedly said the Brian Gregory is making those zoom calls alone and is in charge of making the first cut of candidates.

Tomorrow he will probably have some names.

Not sure I like the idea of Jalen Green if you are keeping Booker -- but it was the most realistic I think.
Could the Suns flip Green to a third team to get a better fit next to Booker - the model is there how to build around Booker --

I think Miami could be where KD will end up. I just hope it is Ware and a good draft pick this year along with whatever filler it will take to make the deal.

However based on the press conference I think Gregory's goal is to get a coach that will work best for KD, Booker and Beal. I will not be surprised if all three of them are back next year.

That's all I need to see happen for me to be checked out for next season.

Seeing Bridges this playoffs......yeah, we made a tremendous mistake that will only compound in the future.

Happy for him and Knicks fans tho.

I still think Celts can come back actually, but if not then count them as being in on KD too. He almost signed with them back when he went to Golden State and is friends with Tatum.

Just having them in there will put more pressure on Houston.

There are reasons I am okay with Beal back -- because I think long term - just suck it up two eyars, take the expiring in 2027 and call it good
I think the stretching Beal is as much about saving Mat money more than winning - truly.. If he knocks him down from 110 to 80 - -that likes 15m per year so $75m in lux tax per year.

So take that 40m and knock that down to 16 - so another 24 time 5 - so thats like $200m -- I think if I have the math right - its crazy
even if its not 200m - say its $125m per year - - that is saving Mat a ton of money

Its not my money, I would see what number - if you release Micic and Martin, how much you need to get under the apron - say its $8m - see if Beal will take a $16m pay cut - $8m per year and buyhim out

I can't see the Celts taking on a huge salary after this season. They're expected to dump salary to get under whatever tax hit they have already.
