I’m tired of rookies…. I’m good if we add a rookie big but other than that hope we convert them to players with experience or future picks.

call me a homer, but i would love to use our 2nd pick on Bama's Grant Nelson. The guy just does all the dirty stuff. Would be a great bench big. I see him like i did Herb Jones

He'd need to learn to cover for his deficiencies athletically/laterally on the defensive end, but I think Mosley could help get a tune out of him there.
I like his game too. Really interesting pick for Magic.

He looks like Jokic handling the ball. You just don't see big men handling the ball like that and passing very often.ucfmay2000 wrote:Tarheel wrote:Michigan jokes aside, I like Danny Wolf with one of our picks. LOL...I'm taking longer looks at Wolf and he's really intriguing. My LOL is while pondering him on my walk this morning and considering how to "frame" him for the Magic - I decided it wouldn't be prudent to mention Jokic, even with a ton of qualifiers, because the mob would come running at me...

I hear you Rob, his passing looks really special...it's especially intriguing because of the interplay between him and the other big guy. Wolf was constantly threading beautiful interior passes in traffic for easy finishes...Big Ingles is a neat idea...I just hope he's not one of those really crafty smart players that just gets squashed on both ends when he meets NBA speed and athleticism. Of course he's not Jokic, but that kind of ball movement and smarts is just another way to unlock easy baskets for our bigs as well as get some backcourt stuff happening. He also seems very mature at 21 and might contribute right away with the second unit, especially if he's got an Isaac or Goga next to him.
I'm nervous about the defense-which is not necessarily highlighted as a weakness, and anything else potentially derived from my assumption of a lack of elite lateral movement...I might honestly be jumping to that conclusion based on his appearance. You know who else is a really smart C, who was raised playing the right way? Moe Wagner...so would Wolf be amazing next to Wagner, with beautiful cutting and ball movement or would he be the logical replacement for Moe at a much lower price point?

He looks really good to me - I'd like to hear what a scathing critique of him looks like.
Egor Demin also looks really really interesting to me (as yet another Bigger Ingles). He's only 19 but played for Real Madrid before BYU...he seems to have a really mature BBIQ beyond his age, his shot looks good-but his % wasn't good. I like him. Not necessarily as "Our new PG", but as another guy with great positional size & versatility with the BBIQ and passing instincts to become a lot more. Giddey is the obvious comp.
Mocks are all over the place this year...it's a wild one...there are a dozen guys that could end up late lottery to second round. Nuts.

Re: 2025 NBA Draft
I've posted a few Sabonis trade ideas...I'm not saying he's Sabonis (at all) but could Wolf bring the same kind of inside out playmaking to our lineup, even if just at times...be a lot prettier than all of the 6'10 iso stuff. The iso stuff will be such an unstoppable weapon in the playoffs, but we've got to make offense easier and more inclusive for many of the possessions. Wolf might be that kind of guy, even if just for the bench unit.
If he can defend and rebound, ultimately as a starter.

As much as I would hate another Michigan prospect being selected to Orlando…
I would be fine with Wolf on Denver’s pick. I like Centers that can pass, rebound, and defend without fouling a ton. If the shooting is real, then he’s a great pick.
I also just like the idea of moving off a lot of this Center money we have tied up at the moment.

Rasheer Fleming could potentially take Isaac's spot. He plays with a lot of force and has a 7'5" wingspan

Re: 2025 NBA Draft
I don't like Mcneeley here at all. To me his best chance is on a team with a system in place that creates open 3s. Like the Celtics and Warriors or Pacers for instance. His skill is being able to launch from deeper than normal and on the move, but I don't think he does a whole lot else. He just looks too stiff to create to me and is a poor defender. He has to make up for that by being able to get a lot of 3 volume up at an accurate clip, which I think could be possible sort of like Trey Murphy pre this season, but don't love that skillset here. He was awful finishing at the rim. Maybe we can blame the injury, but I can't go off of that, I have to go off what I saw. We remember Jett's injury hiding his hidden upside.
Wolf is still interesting to me, not my favorite option and I also can't get a read on where he will go. I could see someone reaching but could also see him falling to the end of the 1st. He would be an acceptable pick IMO, depends on who is available. Wolf with the ball in the high post with Franz and AB as cutters/slashers and two floor spacers could be an interesting lineup. I think Sorber also has pretty good passing instincts.
Nolan Traore's stock has been rising lately. Has been stringing together good games lately. Might be a real option at 16. I for some reason cannot get Ramon Sessions (not a bad career) out of my head when I watch his tape, but there definitely is some upside there. Lightning quick, good passing instincts. Shot is the swing skill, he would also be a project IMO, will take some time.

Haha, I went through the same thing! I came away thinking he’s more of a comp to Giddey with his handles than Jokic, but even that isn’t accurate. Wolf gets low and has some real guard-like movements with his handles, for a 7-footer. Probs also one of the reasons he’s turnover prone, because even though he can do that it’s not super effective.
But yeah, Wolf being another bench creator hitting open shooters and cutters could be huge.

I haven’t really seen more than clips…can he protect the rim at an NBA level? Will his offensive “craftiness” carry over to the NBA or will it just get run over by super strong super-athletic NBA defenders? How good do you feel about his ability to be a viable defensive backstop? (Not Gobert, just viable)
Kessler blocks everything and rebounds everything and he’s not an exceptionally agile guy (I believe)…Wolf is starting to really intrigue me as a (dare I say it) “unicorn”…am I way off?
Yeah that's what I have been harping on for the last few months in the NCAA. Is Wolf's dominance due to his size against smaller college bigs? Is it also due to the fact that his frontcourt mate in Glodkin is even bigger than him so the opponents are just overwhelmed? In the games I saw, he doesn't really scream athleticism so how can he defend the rim in the NBA?

I like Jaylin Williams as a comp for Wolf. Wolf does have the xfactor of having good handle and guard like movements near the basket, just not sure how those things will play out in the NBA. If someone convinces themselves he can handle the ball like that in the NBA without turning it over a ton that is when I could see him going in the top 15-20 picks. Would not surprise me.
I think he has a nice fallback floor as a connective bench type big like Jaylin Williams or Olynyk where he can make decisions with the ball but also knock down some spot up 3s while holding his own on the glass.

You know who I think would make an interesting home for him? Portland. Put him in a frontcourt with Clingan and Avdija and you’ve got rim protection plus a ton of offensive creation in two of your bigs/forwards who can kick out to shooters like Shaedon and Simons (if he’s still there).
I don’t think he goes earlier than late 1st, though. Whilst his combo of skills is unique, the high TO’s makes it questionable of translating. I think you can overcome a lot of that simply by where you let him start dribbling from, ie, not near the half court or into a congested zone defense.
If Wolf adds some more post-up to go with his primarily face-up game he can start sharing more of that Sengun/Sabonis/Jokic big playmaker spectrum.

Before Wolf transfered to MICH... what was his stats and performance in his other school? Does it show he same level?
Im just curious to know if his dominance wasnt pulled up by the fact that he played with someone even bigger than him thus hisbdefenders were a lot smaller.
