Re: OT: NFL 25 Draft and Beyond Thread
looks like the good folks at espn polled 80+ NFL people and they have us ranked as the worst team in the league going into the season
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/44935103/2025-nfl-power-rankings-offseason-postdraft-poll-most-improved-positions
32. New York Giants
Post-free agency ranking: 32
Most improved position: Quarterback
No reason to beat around the bush. The Giants added three quarterbacks this offseason: Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston and first-round pick Jaxson Dart. New York ended last season with Drew Lock, Tommy DeVito and Tim Boyle at QB. The idea is to have Wilson and Winston handle most (if not all) of the work, with DeVito as insurance. This will provide Dart with the NFL equivalent of a redshirt year. It's not perfect for the Giants, but it's an upgrade on how they ended last season. -- Jordan Raanan

Any Jets fans in here?
Fields got done so dirty in Chicago (and Pittsburgh), y'all have a real one with the best OL of his career and the best weapons of his career. 8-4 in his last 12 starts and in contention for the best athlete in the NFL at the QB position.

Re: OT: NFL 25 Draft and Beyond Thread
cool stuff...even Schoen calling up TEN GM right when there were on the clock joking with him about trading the pick. Shows you the Giants had a ton of interest in trading up for Ward.
Also sounds like they knew about CLE moving the pick about a week before the draft and didn't know who but knew the target was Hunter. So they seemed pretty damn set on Abdul for a minute (which a lot of reports had once news that Hunter was going #2 to some team).
Looking forward to part 2 with potential them showing some trade up convos for Dart.

This was really cool thx for sharing. Abdul seems like a good kid and his parents kept him grounded.
I think we're gonna have a fun year regardless of schedule. Seeing Abdul and Burns together just now has me hyped.

with Dex on the interior...no excuse for that not to be one of the strongest units in the NFL. Bowen really has no excuses on the defensive side of the ball.

It seems like they'll give him every chance to succeed, and Tyrod Taylor has already said he looks forward to helping (absolute gem of a back-up QB character-wise). The O-line is basically what us Jets fans are looking forward to the most, since it's all young and should have continuity going forward (barring crazy injuries like we've had sometimes).
The weapons are a bit in the air. Garrett Wilson is elite. Breece Hall is super-talented but had a down year last season. They'll be sporting a rookie TE (but a promising one) in Mason Taylor. Then WR2 is....Allen Lazard, unless we trade him to Pittsburgh, which would leave the Jets with unproven young WRs the rest of the way.
I'll be rooting for Fields to succeed, or at least show enough for the FO to get serious about adding more receiving depth next offseason.

Being a Bears fan I'm pretty familiar with the Lions and find it fascinating how differently the Bears and Lions have constructed their rosters. IMO the Jets have emulated the Lions path:
1. Heavy emphasis on the OL - two 1st round tackles (I know Olu wasn't this regimes pick but they doubled down this year again) and a solid interior OL
2. They're going to run the **** out of the ball with multiple RBs (and Fields) - I saw that they're planning on using Allen and even the 3rd RB a bit but Breece is a top 5 talent at RB imo and Fields is such a weapon that the Jets should have a top 3 running game next year. If the OL pans out - that's the best running football team in the NFL.
3. Give a legit chance to a written off QB with talent - the Lions got Goff and believed in him and it's paid dividends for them - nabbing Fields and giving him low expectations will pay off for the franchise. In his last stretch here in Chicago he was maturing and playing winning football despite a bad HC and bad OL. The OL should be good and hopefully Glenn doesn't blow leads like Eberflus did.
There were two media driven campaigns that really soured me on both the Bulls and Bears - 2015 when they were letting Thibs walk and 2024 when the Bears traded Fields. Both dudes got done dirty in Chicago and right now Thibs is having a moment and I'm pretty freaking confident Justin will too.

That definitely sounds like the blueprint. Especially with how they've handled WR, it's clear that the running game will be the backbone of the offense.
I have to admit that I didn't watch enough Bears football to see Fields' development. But I thought he looked really promising for Pittsburgh. I know a lot of Steelers fans, and I remember arguing with some of them about Wilson getting to start when Fields was winning games. I'm hoping he can be like a couple of Jets QBs that flopped here but only needed better opportunities and more time to grow (Geno Smith and Sam Darnold).

I'm hoping he can be like a couple of Jets QBs that flopped here but only needed better opportunities and more time to grow (Geno Smith and Sam Darnold).
Coming out Ryan Day said he just needed time. The Bears did their absolute best to destroy him:
2021 - rookie year their plan was to sit him like KC did with Mahomes, they were in the last year of the Pace/Nagy regime so he was their last ditch effort to save their jobs. They don't let him compete for the starting job, give it to Dalton, have him be qb2 when they had Nick Foles on the roster and Dalton gets hurt early. His first game as a starter he gets abused by the Browns DL and takes 9 sacks. It was disgusting to watch. Next week they destroy the Lions and you see his ability to push the ball down the field like he did at OSU. When he's got a plus OL and trusts his pocket he can really sling it.
2022 - new regime - they strip the team down to the studs in the off-season and continue to do so after a 2-1 start. He starts off shaky in the pocket (in part because the ol sucks and the WRs are all bums) but they start to add the zone read option and the offense takes off from the ground. I kid you not his stretch of play in the middle of the season in this season was the most electric **** from any athlete in Chicago that I've ever seen. Right there with young Derrick Rose and Devin Hester - he would just bust 60 yard TD runs and it was clear he realized in this period that he was the best athlete on the field. Watch the highlights - we would wind up with the 1st overall pick but that's more because they openly tanked, the coach was a bum and Justin was figuring out what it takes to be a winning QB. So weird to have a double digit losing streak to end the season but fans were pumped because you could clearly see that this dude had MVP potential.
2023 - they give him a tackle and DJ Moore - starts the season off poorly because once again the OL is bad and he doesn't trust the pocket. They start to figure it out after getting destroyed by KC and he's refined his game a bit - the first half against Denver he went 16-17 for 231 yards & 3TDs and were up like 20 and they still blew the game. With a decent HC they're 10-7 and in the playoffs, they finish the season 4-2 with the most impressive win being a blowout over the Lions who'd go onto the NFC championship game. All the while the Panthers are the worst team in the NFL so the media is starting to hype up Caleb while Justin is coming into his own because they're going to get the 1st overall pick again. His last home game they blow out the Falcons in the snow and he's lights out and the fans chant "we want Justin" and the whole time he handled the situation with rare class and maturity. There was an all out online civil war on Twitter and sports radio over what they should do and his teammates were fully on his side.
They wound up trading him for peanuts, added Caleb, Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze with the 9th pick and didn't address the OL or head coach and got significantly worse. I watched every Steelers game and he continued to make steps forward to his game, his floor is significantly higher now.
Glenn targeting him makes complete sense - in 4/5 of his starts against the Lions he gave them fits, Glenn knows best how talented Justin is and his comments about how "Justin's never been allowed to play QB" and their drafting of a tackle makes me think this regime knows what they're doing. If the defense is decent y'all are going to get a WC slot and by this time next year Fields will have an extension.

Re: OT: NFL 25 Draft and Beyond Thread
here is the trade up video with Dart....clearly this was Dabolls guy they were trying to go get. Its on him.
Seems like pretty good work by Schoen to be patient wait for the deal that didn't break the bank.
we really seem like we send the QB's through the ringer in terms of studying and board work. Pretty grueling process.

The schedule is out.
We will be definitely picking 10 ten again. I can see us winning some games we aren't supposed to tho.
Week 14 bye week is brutal. They really had it out for us

the dart pick basically bought schoen and daboll another year.
if we have another bad year, they can use the "QB of the future in development for a year" excuse.

It's really dope to see people who've watched Fields keep praising him and talking about his potential. It's giving me more optimism about his future with NY. I'm seriously rooting for him to show out.

I think the Jets are gonna be alright this year. Fields is finally in a place that will work with him and there are legit weapons on offense.

It's really nice to have a young team that still has a fairly certain core. The expectations and pressure are low, so successes will just feel like house money. Plus, there's always some excitement to seeing how a new staff will approach the culture and team-building stuff.
I had zero problem with the Jets taking a swing on Rodgers, but I didn't like the mid-season attempts to mortgage the future to save the present. Now, there's a bit more clean up to do with cap conditions, but at least the light at the end of the tunnel is a fairly clean slate and a bunch of developing pieces.
