It's all Trump's fault!

But seriously impressive win for Toronto. Losing their starting goalie hurts, I wonder if he'll miss any time and how long he'll be out for. I don't follow hockey that closely these days, but I just have such a hard time having any confidence at all in the Leafs, I still like the Panthers to take this. Every time Toronto gets their fans hopes up, they seem to swiftly and devastatingly let them down .

More purposeful inflicting of pain on the middle class...just like we all wanted. Yay!!

Trump halts student loan relief, restarts collections and wage garnishment: ‘Black borrowers will suffer most’

“It is the American people, the workers across this country, who keep this economy going, and so they should have the benefit of economic growth and not being preyed upon by … predatory activities coming out of the White House,” said NAACP President Derrick Johnson.

As the Trump administration begins referring defaulted student loan accounts for collections on May 5, advocates for student loan debt relief and cancellation say President Donald Trump’s abrupt departure from Biden-era policies will disproportionately hurt Black borrowers and widen the racial wealth gap.

After more than five years of student loan payment pauses, the Trump administration has escalated the federal government’s attempts to collect payments–all the while Republicans in Congress introduce legislation to eliminate affordable student loan payment programs.

But advocates and Democrats warn of a recipe for disaster as the $1.6 trillion student loan debt crisis collides with the continued rising costs in housing and basic goods and services, and concerns of an economic downturn amid President Trump’s tariff policies and plans to extend tax cuts for wealthy Americans.

Its LITERALLY stealing from the poor to give to the rich. But MAGAts will cheer it on, because of who it's targeting and especially who they think it will effect the most.

Like I said, I'm glad some are beginning to come to terms with why Republican voters are reporting to be happy with Trump despite him seemingly doing the opposite of what they said they voted for. Its because he isn't doing the opposite of what they actually voted for lol, he's doing exactly what they wanted. Which is to inflict pain on others they don't like. Its a culture/identity war for average Republican voters, to "own the libs" and "get those uppity blacks and wayward women", and a money grab for Trump and fellow elites. That's the deal the two sides of the right have made.

There was a lot of denial before and a lot of people trying to rationalize it and intellectualize it in diff ways, because I think they didn't want to admit the type of people they have around them, even in their own families and friend circles. But when every metric about the reasons they gave for voting the way they did keep collapsing their claim, it's obvious what they truly voted for. It was never about the price of eggs, government waste/spending, jobs, or the deficit.

Aaaand a little bit of extortion too: U.S. pushes nations facing tariffs to approve Musk’s Starlink, cables show 8-)

The decision drew a mention in an internal State Department memo obtained by The Washington Post, which states: “As the government of Lesotho negotiates a trade deal with the United States, it hopes that licensing Starlink demonstrates goodwill and intent to welcome U.S. businesses.”

Lesotho is far from the only country that has decided to assist Musk’s firm while trying to fend off U.S. tariffs. The company reached distribution deals with two providers in India in March and has won at least partial accommodations with Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Vietnam, although this is probably not a comprehensive count.

To the Catholics, congrats on the new pope. Its funny though, how age work in different professions. 69 is young for a pope. And Lebron is out here at 40 and we call him grandpa.
I think we'd be best served if we can reduce the ages of these old folks who have power. I think ifs its an important position, you should retire past 65. Too many old folks holding on to power, let some of the other gens get a chance. Imagine being a priest at 30 and wanting to be a cardinal or pope, you got 40 years to go before getting there.

**cough cough** Riles, time to let someone else have a go now

Im a catholic and I will just say right now, it is no coincidence that they made a fast unanimous decision and that he is american.

I read and watch a lot of news, and I have been telling my family and friends for months, this country’s catholics and christians has fallen way short of what being a catholic/christian is in comparison to the rest of the world.

They knew that america needed leadership from the catholich church to guide, teach and remind us how to behave, how to think, what being good spirited and kind is again.

There has been a lot of vulgar and vile behavior from people who have bible quotes in their profiles and wearing crosses on their necklace. Just saying youre a christian or catholic isnt enough… and no im not saying convert to a super religious person, but the ugly behavior and overall behavior needs to be checked, and maybe he will guide us back in his teachings.

Ive been reading a lot of people celebrating pope francis death, some referring him as a “woke pope”, along with other ugly things. im not liberal, and ive got to say that stuff is beyond disgusting and disrespectful. All popes are elected to spread the word of god and bring hope love and peace, regardless of your religion or where youre from.

For me, this has been the most disappointing part. Using Christianity to justify an agenda completely antithetical to what the teachings are. Makes us all look bad.

Hopefully he is very vocal in his role and reminds people of what being a follower of Christ actually means. Then again, most Americans are mostly Protestant, so it probably won't matter.

I heard Pam Bondi was previously registered as a foreign agent for Qatar too. I don’t want our leadership having conflicts of interest with ANY country.

With that said, I just filled up my tank and gas is under $3. Also my groceries are lower in cost too. So there are things going on with the Trump admin that I like too.

Your not alone on Toronto but they have a good team that can make the finals. As much as I want my Panteras to win it, EDM seems ready to take with that potent offense.

They're Jewish, so it isn't surprising that this particular decision is one they'd question. Because it effects them/their group. Like most other Trump supporters, they were fine (even happy) when they thought Trump would harm other groups that they hate. But they didn't think the leopards would eventually eat THEIR faces.

People on the right are cool with disagreement. Ben Shapiro calls Trump out on his economic policies all the time. Aint nothing wrong with that.

I don’t think Trump should take the plane either, but I’m not suddenly going to say I don’t support all his policies. That’s what led to the disaster of the Biden years.

Inflation rate is down more than expectations, our treasuries in april had their highest surplus since 2021, the tariffs are bringing better trade deals for our country, our food is being made healthier, bureaucratic red tape is disappearing, and dangerous people are being taken off our streets and sent back to their countries. Overall I grade Trump as a B so far. In particular because I am not a fan of rose to her highest level of incompetence Pam Bondi.

Did you hear David Hogg was ousted as DNC VP because his election did not conform to DNC gender diversity rules? This is the funniest summary of the current state of the “professional” DNC. The left needs to quit with the tribalism. I can’t stand David Hogg, but he would have won the Dems some elections.

I did. Hogg's planned on funding challenges to incumbent Dems, so it's the least shocking thing I've read in a while. Sad fact is the Democratic party plays by a different set of rules from Republicans....whether you think that's willful is up to the individual (fun fact: I do).

Generally speaking, liberals will mother**** conservatives & vise versa in the online space or on cable TV, but a lot of these folk are in the same tax bracket & influenced by the same dark money groups (see Kirsten Sinema & Joe Manchin as examples). These people don't really want change; they just want to stay in power to fatten their bottom lines & Trump is the genius idiot who at the very least knows how to leverage voters' ill will towards them. Hogg is someone who's aware enough to at the very least speak to meaningful change, but folks at the DNC know that the change he either hints at or talks about openly would hit their pocketbooks in due time.

He hasn't done a single thing to crush inflation. Inflation was the downward spiral when he came to office cuz the Feds kept the interest high. There isn't a single policy that you can point to that he did on inflation. His tariffs strategy I think is dumb but so far it hasn't caused long term harm predicted. We will see by midterms if it was stupid or it worked. Its a pretty straight foward bet. If manufacturing increases without significant harm or high inflation then he was right.
As far as deficit, he still projected to have a bigger deficit than Biden cuz of his tax cuts. It will all depend on the reconciliation bill which as of now adds more to the deficit.
But it hasn't passed, so we'll see by end of year what it looks like. But I don't think Trump or Repubs are serious about deficit. Neither party has been serious about sound economic policy since the Clinton admin. Every admin has run a significantly bigger deficit than their predecessor. Biden was about even with Trump. Both run more in 1 term than Obama in 2.
We'll see also on the deficit by the end of the year. But I doubt they'll do anything meaningful on that part
