Our team is fully healthy in the playoffs cause of Casey Smith and we also destroyed Dallas as a result of it

The Mavericks' decision to fire strength coach Keith Belton this week after Belton's first season in Dallas comes in the wake of a tumultuous and injury-filled season for the team's medical and performance team.
As The Stein Line first reported on April 20, Dereck Lively II's stress fracture in his right foot in February caused what league sources describe as significant tensions within the Mavericks' medical department, including a notable blowup over the handling of the injury between Belton and director of player health and performance Johann Bilsborough, who also just completed his first season in Dallas.
Bilsborough, who replaced the popular Casey Smith after Smith's nearly two decades in charge of Mavericks medical matters, was spared in Wednesday's purge that saw GM Nico Harrison dismiss four members of the training staff and make a change in the equipment ranks as well. Those changes included the removal of head athletic trainer Dionne Calhoun, who likewise had a two-decade tenure in Dallas that, like Smith's, included a gold-medal-winning stint with USA Basketball.

Yeah I saw the Tim McMahon's article on Luka trade which detailed in length Casey's importance to the Mavs then

It's likely the Knicks hired him because JB wanted him

I also think a big part of us going after him was how we lost Randle, OG, Mitch last year to injuries. They probably felt like they needed to make a change and they were right

Did the new medical staff prescribe lots of offseason rest?

Because Knicks about to get it, in a few days.

Begley said teams were trying to get him too.

Smith has been a highly influential figure within the Mavericks organization since joining as the team’s lead athletic trainer in 2004. He has longstanding friendships with Dirk Nowitzki and coach Jason Kidd, and he often served as a liaison between the locker room and the front office. He has developed a close relationship with Luka Dončić, typically joining the team’s delegations to visit him each offseason in Slovenia. He has also been a respected voice involved in larger personnel decisions, such as Kidd’s and Harrison’s hirings in 2021, team sources say. In 2019, he was promoted to director of player health and performance.

Smith also is widely respected around the league and served as Team USA’s lead athletic trainer from 2005 to 2012.

I was wondering if the training staff would be evaluated after the way things went for this team health wise, and this answers my questions.

I don’t get what the issue is. We’re completely healthy right now. Other playoff teams aren’t.
