I know Boston had 60 wins, won a chip, Knicks only 5th best NBA record etc etc, but I feel like the media kind of overlooks that the team is actually good.

And losing iShart stunk, and it hurt to lose Donte, BUT:

Knicks FO executed a plan I think they had their eye on for a while.

- They wanted additional height, defensive ability and a better all around game at SG. - That's Mikal.
Did they sacrifice the 3 point gunning of Donte? Yes. Maybe they hoped he'd be here for the bench, but TWolves insisted.
Also, and this will be a theme, Mikal can play the 2, 3 and probably a LITTLE 4, if needed

- They knew they were going to move on from extending or resigning Randle. Randle was a VERY good player for the Knicks.
They replaced him with KAT, as good as a scorer and passer (not as individually creative but better shooter) and importantly, KAT is a stretch 5
But KAT can also play the 4

- When they got OG, they moved on from RJ and IQ, not wanting to pay them and feeling like they had Deuce and other options in the draft barrell
- OG is a great defender; he can also play the 3 or the 4

- When they got Hart, it was getting a Brunson guy, but also a guy who can play 3,4,2

- Hart, OG and Mikal's ability to be multi positional, along with KAT, provides multiple opportunities to sub in Mitch for different guys.
Mostly, he comes in for Hart, but it can be KAT. It could be OG or Mikal going out

- And then Deuce is available for situational guard defense and 3 point shooting.

Can the team get taller at the wing? Absolutely. Would be great if Dadiet and McCullars emerge to provide legit wing height, defense and shooting (more Dadiet than McCullars). Do they need a better backup PG than Cam? Yup.

Team is still pretty good and roster is better than I think the pundits understand.

i'm glad you pointed out the yutes. they are the next generation from this machine. and they needed to see this. they'll be ready when it's time. we have baby versions of some key players and roles. i love it.

and, no. they're not ready for what this all is right now. god love them. if healthy, hukporti might be the broken glass backup center mitchy role. but we built this machine for trench warfare and we're in it now.

Yep I said this the other day but we actually might end up with a lot more depth next season based on how much Kolek, Huk, Dadiet and McCullar Jr can improve over the next 6 months.

If at least two of those guys can become good enough for the rotation plus MLE and vet min signings, this roster will be significantly better.

I think we definitely have something with Kolek and Huk, and I like what i have seen from Dadiet who is a work in progress.

It's hard to not be excited.

However.....! We cannot allow uncontested threes. Clean that up tomorrow and we go up 3-0 because I think Brunson is gonna explode (pause? No! No pause!!!) for one of those superstar games we all know is coming.

Bury them!!!

orrrrr we just don't go to boston and wait for Indiana to come for game 1?

That works for me too

I'll say this. IF. IF we can pull it out tomorrow (no pause), I think Boston collapses internally and Monday we end this.

One thing at a time tho. I'm not thinking about Indiana.

winning this series at all would be like a mini title for me. just for the sake of appreciating what we have and have done.

but to do it like that. i don't think i'd be functional.

I had two years in my past life that I wouldn't trade for the world, you probably can guess which ones. Other than that, I have made peace with it and now, reincarnated, I am just happy to watch this with everyone and enjoy the process no matter the outcome. I don't even wanna think about October but I'm imagining that rotation and maaaaaan. The window is open. Wide.

Everyone sh*ts on the bench, but we're basically a fully actualized Dadiet from being deep.

Who knows if he'll ever get there, but like you said, all the needed archetypes are there (Kolek, Dadiet, Huk)

Most people want a bench creator though, someone who just comes in and gets buckets. But, I am with you in that I want another wing off the bench, we need just one more 6'6+" guy with versatility.

Knicks kind of need Precious in that he's the only backup PF on the bench, but Precious is somewhat limited in that he's the size of a 4 and his game is 95% like that of a shorter 5.

I think the Knicks package up the $ of Precious + someone cheap and hunt for some cheapish wing 6'7" or taller to give the Dadiet and McCullars either another year to emerge OR seize the job in camp/preseason.

Or, I guess, let Precious go and use whatever MLE they have. Something like that. I don't pay attention to cap ramifications like I used to.

yeah, we don't have precious money to use unless he wants to do a S&T. he's on a one-year "overpay" for this role. he could be doing worse in life.

If this ends on Monday, or at worst in Game 5? This season is 100% a success and my next thoughts will be regardless of what happens in the ECF (i think we beat Indy if we get there) or Finals (knock on wood) will be how much better can we get in October. Sky is the limit from here.

BUT. Let's worry about BOS first. They aren't dead yet.
