Denver re-tools( with Utah, Chicago and Brooklyn)

Post#1 » by youngthegiant » Fri May 9, 2025 10:35 pm

Denver Trades: Michael Porter Jr., Dario Saric, Julian Strawther, Hunter Tyson, 2031 1st rd pick(top 3 protected)
Receives: John Collins, Cam Johnson

Chicago Trades: Patrick Williams, Zach Collins
Receives: Michael Porter Jr., Hunter Tyson

Brooklyn Trades: Cam Johnson
Receives: Patrick Williams, KJ Martin, Dario Saric

Utah Trades: John Collins, KJ Martin
Receives: Zach Collins, Julian Strawther, Den 2031 1st rd pick(Top 3 protected)

Why: Denver turns some of their assets into two really good players in Cam Johnson/John Collins. They'll be able to use Collins at 4/5 and will have more depth. Chicago turns two players who have run their course into a proven 3rd option in MPJ. Brooklyn takes a flier on Patrick Williams to see if they can turn his career around. Utah turns an expiring contract into a valuable future 1st and a decent prospect in Julian Strawther.

I mean this is so so bad for Brooklyn. Cam Johnson has some positive value. That package they get back is three players with negative value including a guy about to start a long bad extension. Even if they got the pick you send to Utah its still bad for them.

Utah does this for sure and quickly. Chicago would just take Cam Johnson for themselves and flip him if Brooklyn would do their part(they would not obviously).

Cam Johnson a 29 year old role player. He's good but I think you're overvaluing him.
Patrick Williams is 23 and has had some decent stretches, certainly worth taking a flier on for a Brooklyn team that doesn't have a clear direction yet.

Not seeing all of the picks BRK would obviously get for the asset going out and the albatross and filler coming in.

If you like him so much then brooklyn gladly cuts itself out of the deal and denver can have patrick williams instead

Exactly, but there is a reason obviously he didn't do that. And then to come back and neg Johnson to justify it....my least favorite trope on this board--make a deal you know favors your team, then diminish the very player you want for your team. Sorry, but you wouldn't propose the trade if you really thought Johnson has little worth and you'd definitely take the 23 year old you see as more valuable than him.

As is we'd do it, but as soon as this is made a direct trade (which is what it should be) that pick needs to be unprotected for taking all that money, IMO.

Patrick Williams sucks, Chicago fans are done with him, hes a minimum level player making 18 million.

Those who think Williams is overpaid for what he has been doing should be seeing he's not done well with ball dominating DeRozan and Lavine as teammates for 3 years. On the other hand Porter jr is a solid player helping out the multi MVP superstar, don't kid yourself that he could equal his production in Chicago with zero all stars. Expiring Zach Collins is worthwhile for the Bulls for that reason.

BRK better get more that tryouts back for Johnson if they hope to rebuild while they have assets.

Too good for Bulls and Jazz, Nets get the shaft.

I think that is a lot closer, if you consider you're turning a negative like Patrick Williams into a sought after positive (although overrated) in Cam Johnson, then a 7 spot rise plus a middling pick sounds more like it, assuming you think that 7 spot rise gets you somewhere you like and you believe that pick conveys. It's a basic framework I think should be consider, give or take.

The Nets are not trading Cam Johnson for scraps, which is all this trade is for the Nets. They're getting back guy who's massively overpaid compared to his production and 2 fillers players. This trade would've been better if it was just the Nets/Nuggets trading directly with each other without including the Jazz or Bulls.

I’m all for trading Collins, Sexton, Clarkson or some combination of any of them for a FRP. I just want to know what happens to the pick if it has protections. If it’s top 3 protected does it turn into an unprotected or two seconds.

Makes a huge difference.
