OT from this conversation, but around 2011 or so I went to a Knicks game at Raptors. Wore my blue Mitchell and Ness Knicks jersey #10. Stood in line of a few people after the game, down at the scorers/broadcast table. When I got up to Walt he smiled seeing his jersey and said right away, I better sign that. Which I wasn't expecting, just wanted to shake his hand. I didn't have a pen so he went over to his leather case on the table, got a Sharpie and autographed on the front number. My son who was about 20 then took a picture of us together. I was beaming. I'm 6 feet tall and he is much taller of course about 6'4. I wish I'd had more to say but was able to get out he was my favorite player back in the early 70s, and how I loved watching the championship teams play. He couldn't have been a nicer gentleman. My son, an NBA fan but born in 88, said what a great guy, cool guy.

So you can meet your heroes sometimes.

i met walt under almost the exact same circumstances. when i was a kid i was lucky to be sitting in the 300 section. i was like 12 when i met him. he was just walking around the walkway by himself. i walked up to him and shook his hand and he just seemed happy to meet me. i knew who he was then but i didn't really KNOW. now when i look back, it means so much more. i came to learn that in the early 90s that was not uncommon for him to just kind of stroll around the garden and meet fans.

so, yes. you CAN meet some heroes. just always a risk of severe disappointment. not from clyde tho.

My other hero was Ali. I feel he was kind to his admirers as well.

Rj is a good person but ultimately he wasn’t a winning basketball player. This trade was the ultimate fleece! Hopefully rj can figure out a way to be an impact player in his career. He’s still young.

We could still use IQ though, contract notwithstanding… heck, Grimes would help us right about now too.

Grimes is an excellent defender. If he opens next season the way he ended this season he will be a big commodity.

Should be starting next to Brunson. Would love a starting unit of

JB
Grimes
KAT
OG
Bridges

Grimes would help blunt the POA for WingStop.

If you sub in Mitch and Deuce for KAT and JB, that's five plus defenders on the floor

That's a sweet song. Off The Wall was in many ways better than Thriller. It was also the last album when he still seemed related to young Michael before mega stardom twisted his mind and soul.

Watching little Michael on Soul Train is still a jarring experience for the reasons you said. His delivery was more than just him being a prodigy; it was emotionally precise. I still don't think anyone can touch him as a young singer. It was a supernatural talent. Maybe being that young he could feel something beyond his years because that was the power of the beyond coming out of his mouth. He was chosen to sing like that.

His specialness became his curse. He would never be normal. All of that crap with the kids was gross, but it was also sad because never growing up is a prison he locked himself into. He was never an adult. He chose to escape reality completely and it turned him into a monster. But the music doesn't care. You can still enjoy it. There is no sin in listening.

Watching this Cavs game I feel like we should revisit a possible trade for him. We used our assets to get both OG and Mikal. Would we trade Mikal and OG for Spida today?

Return to New York Knicks
