Actually you know who KD makes perfect sense for, ironically? The Warriors, they're clearly all in and all that matters is Jimmy/Steph's window. Also, funnily enough, the Celtics, who I think could sacrifice little, and badly need a guy that can settle them down when they get into 3 point chuckfest mode (yeah I'm already writing Boston off, guess we'll see if they make me eat crow tonight).

Wait why is someone point out Tyler being our 1st option considered made of nonsense due to hate lol? Actually how is that even a hot take?

Name every player that leads their team in shot attempts AND usage and isn’t their teams 1st option. Now name every player that did that for 4 years straight and wasn’t their teams first option, good luck with that.

Just because he was our 3rd best player doesn’t mean we were masquerading him as our first scoring option. He was paid to score, we put him in the role. Whether we all agree with the decision or not.

Boston is currently up 20 but we know that means nothing so far this series.

I wouldn't call it hate, but I'd also suggest claiming we were pushing him as a clear cut 1st option is a mischaracterization of his role. He was a scorer who was used to score like stated. I think at times he took too many shots, but a lot of that is also a function of the other guys on the roster. Namely Bam, who I'm sorry, has to be poked and prodded to get aggressive (not a shot at Bam just the reality) and is a finisher on a more talented team, and Jimmy, who was mailing it in during the regular seasons.

I'd say its more accurate to describe the Jimmy Heat as a team that didn't have a #1 option except when Jimmy decided to be one. But ultimately, somebody had to take the shots.

Jimmy and Bam weren’t super far behind in usage and shot attempts but it was a decent little gap. You can’t find anyone in the league that has led their team in shot attempts and usage in 4 straight seasons and weren’t their teams 1st option. I agree it was likely by design due to preserving Jimmy for the playoffs but it was in fact the case. Contract wasn’t wrong in what he was saying and now people are claiming that bringing those facts to the table is being done out of hate and I guess are made up numbers lol

I feel like with some solid vet minimum signings to build a better supporting cast than we had (needs to include a playmaker), trading for a KD/Ja/Trae/Zion/etc., the addition of Tyler who has improved (if he can carry it over to the postseason), a more versatile scoring Bam who can spread the floor now, etc. shouldn’t that offset the loss of Jimmy and then some?

I get that you can just force a big trade like that and it’s a big ask but if we can get it done and make some home run signings we’re right back in the mix. I have a feeling our guys are going to bust their asses to get better this summer and this might be the summer Pat Riley reminds everyone who the fuxk he is.

I don't think it has to be so black/white, all or nothing. But if I had to compare this to the last 3 times we did a restart...

The first was the end of the Zo/Timmy build. That one, it was already a borderline squad that had only gotten as far as the ECF. We didn't even know if Zo could be the guy on a championship team. We tried to push it one year longer, that didn't work, then it was torn down for a tank. That lead to Wade.

Second was the Wade/Shaq team. We tore that one down, but we had a clear target in mind, 2010 free agency, and we already had our franchise guy who we knew could lead us to a chip in Wade. So it was sort of a pseudo tank, tank one year, try to win without sacrificing flexibility, then go all in for 2010.

Third was the departure of LeBron. In that case, we still had Wade/Bosh, so it felt right to at least try to win with that group.

The question I guess is, since we definitely do not have anyone on the roster comparable to prime Wade... is Herro/Bam closer to post kidney disease Zo and EJ? Or declined Wade/Bosh? If you think its the former, you probably need more than a KD to get back to competing, and you're just spinning your wheels (unless he comes almost free of course). If its the latter, maybe you do think a KD can be that piece that gets them over the hump.

Personally I'm not that enamored with Tyler/Bam... I think they're nice pieces, but not "just go get a KD and we got this" nice. Unless, again, he comes almost free. But if the price tag included, say, Ware and a 1st, I'd pass.

The Heat tore it down and tanked twice and iv said this for years. The only reason they did so because of the talent level of those drafts was tremendous in 2003 and 2008. There was unusually high level physical prospects with nba bodies

Apparently KDs boy shut down Ethan’s tweet saying the mutual interest was false. Also saw KD was made that the Heat turned down Jimmy/Jaime/Jovic for KD at the deadline.

Who knows.

I'm fine with the "he took the most shots" point in that post, it is a fact, but some of the rest of that was borderline hate. Especially not acknowledging his growth as a player the past two seasons, most of all this season. It's not purely a "watch the games" thing either, his numbers were up in nearly all categories, except for field goal attempts despite Jimmy only playing with us like 20 some odd games.

Fair enough, contract definitely hates him for reasons he gave

Celtics have been far and away the better team in this series, funny they find themselves down 1-2. Just completely let their foot off the gas in both home games in the 4th

You really think so? Call me a hater but I haven't seen anything great from them, just the typical "live by the 3 die by the 3" style. When the possessions get tough, they just keep chucking.

I know they're down 2-1 but the team that's looked the most impressive to me so far is OKC, they got issues though to be sure. Really don't think there's one dominant team this season.

Yep. Been saying this

I fully expect them to cycle back to KD in the offseason and with Jimmy now, they'll be more attractive to him.

I don’t think Boston has been impressive by any means but they’ve been in complete control outside of the 2 4th quarter collapses where they just kept chucking and chucking. I thinking they just let their foot off the gas and it bit them in the ass, they didn’t make that mistake today.

Do you think Cavs or Celtics come back and win their series after being down 0-2?

Between the two, I guess Cleveland. I like the Knicks more than the Pacers as a team (purely how they're built, don't confuse me for a Knicks fan now) and I think the Cavs are better than Boston.

I could see both Indiana and New York pulling it off though.

Whole NBA feels wide open these days. Can we get one elite KD year and make miracles happen?

Jaime and Jovic are barely assets.. nobody in the league are thinking we need those two.. theyre throw aways and we will see if theyre still in the league or playing for the euroleague in 2 seasons

Elite KD with this group maybe gets to the 2nd round.

And if the Titos happen to have out of body experiences during the playoffs and somehow Mia gets to the finals, theyd still get curve stomped by the likes of Den or OKC.

Return to Miami Heat
