OldCeltics wrote:Today's Celtics team is full of young talent coming into their prime, but my confession is this year i watched only 2 games during the entire season. Why? Because the lack of any effort the Celtics showed consistently during the season. An why would they show effort? They won the championship. They got their contracts.
An this lack of effort during the season has caught up with us in the playoffs. Lucky it is against the Knicks and not Cavs full strength or OKC. Kevin Garnett was the one that would get down on his knees and bark like a dog during a regular season game. Why? Because he said everything you do during the regular season sets you up for success in the playoffs, another words through repetition you build skills, increase ability, and automatically make the right play not even thinking.
Take Tatum, he has his son Deuce, and his family. You think he tries as hard any more at work. He's a billionaire, with a kid, he's living the good life. An he's one of many. He's already won it all, do you think he needs to put up a full effort against the likes of a bad team like Knicks which we beat 4 times in regular season. Off course not. So when you have a 20 point lead, why get back on defense, why take good shots, when you can do Kobe "Tatum's favorite player growing up" type fade aways.
These loses are pure effort, up by 20 each time, and coasting. It is the inability to understand that this is the NBA, this is not college basketball, and each and every top 15 team has a chance to win, even if they don't have stars like Celtics do. It is a trend that stems from the regular season where multiple times the Celtics gave up 20 point leads, and either barely won by a point or two or just lost. Its also chucking up more 3s than they ever have in the past years.
The good news is we are going to win this series regardless, cause Knicks suck. Its ok to have a bad shooting streak, but it is not ok to disrespect your opponent by going up 20 and showing no effort. Celtics have no heart like in past years. An i think in part it does stem from the coach. In part the players. To win the finals they won't just need to step up to the next gear, but to the gear after that, and the gear after that. But do they have those gears. They must from past years, but definitely not from this disgusting year.
