This was not totally unexpected, surely, the series will ebb and flow. A response is required, yes, but if you thought Boston would roll over then you are delusional.

Just like I didn’t feel they needed to panic against Detroit and make major rotation changes, I also don’t feel like it needs to be done now. The whole team didn’t play well last game and we still are up 2-1 so the time to panic or make major changes is not now.
I think it starts with Brunson, who has to be better offensively especially earlier in the games. Hes shooting his career worst playoff fg% in this series and we need him to be better. KAT also needs to be better, but with a broken finger I’m not sure how much better he can be. Mikal and OG need to be better as well but it starts with Brunson. Nobody is coming off the bench and helping those guys be better offensively and we definitely need to be to win this series.
I don't think there needs to be any changes aside from getting Mitch into the game earlier than usual to play next to Karl. Josh would then come back in near the end of the Quarter to give Karl a rest.
I don’t see how that fixes the offense

I think Tatum and Brown are very unselfish TBH. They are constantly trying to find the mismatches. They use screens very well to their own advantage or read the play to find an open man for a three. They had a combined 12 assists today while our total team had 16.
You’re supposed to hunt a mismatch to put the defense in a weak position. It doesn’t necessarily have to be for you to jack up a shot. I’ve seen so many terrible attempts from these guys

Fixing the offense would require an actual system in place that maximizes the talent on hand instead of isolation and no off ball movement or actions to free anyone up for open looks in their spots. You know, that embarrassing dog sh*t we saw yesterday.
My point was that getting Mitch into the game early helps us defensively -and- puts someone in the dunkers spot on offense instead of having Josh standing in a corner killing spacing or screening for Brunson which doesn't help much since Josh's man will just trap him.

Re: PG: Not fun
Like yo literally I'm not trying to kick Tom's back in, because we are up, but that was literally one of the worst preparations I've ever seen from a team up 2-0 in a playoff series. No urgency from anyone outside of Mitch, and nothing from the bench to stop the bleeding.
Stagnant ass offense, brain dead defense. We will be in serious trouble tomorrow if we approach game 4 like the first 3 games of this series.

Josh should not be standing in a corner and he shouldn't be an on ball screener. Does this staff watch tape? F*ck man.
Sorry yall. I'm pissed off about this. We were not even remotely prepared to compete yesterday

It’s the same exact system that’s seen us put together runs where we are actually scoring and multiple players are involved in it. It’s the exact same system that’s helped us erase 20 point deficits and come back to win. Game 1 our leading scorers were Brunson and OG with 29 a piece. Game 2 our leading scorers was Josh Hart with 23 and KAT with
21. Brunson only had 17 but got it going in the clutch. So our leading scorers in our two games were never the same players. Clearly everybody has been given opportunities to be involved in the offense plenty. The inconsistency is with the players not the system. We are yet to see them play well together collectively and not because of a lack of opportunity but a lack of consistency in the players.
Mitch being out there kills spacing too and also kills rhythm and momentum because he’s fouled to put him on the line which just slows the game down and most of his trip there are like turnovers anyway.
I think we need to get off to better starts offensively and then Robinson can come in and play his defensive disruptor role but he’s not fixing the starting lineup which needs to shoot better and be more consistent scoring the ball

Wide open misses. Like 56 of them. That's not our doing. It's literally the only reason we won those two games. If they hit 2-3 more shots we are down 3-0. That's how terrible we have played. Thibs sucks.
You all deserve the fizdale days man lol, everyone jumping off ship up 2-1 don't jump back in after it's 3-1 Monday
Who jumped ship? Reality hurts your feelings or something? We can't keep playing like trash and being down 20 every game and expect to win. It's just common sense. Those two wins, as glorious as they were, are fluke wins. Game 3 showed us that. All they have to do is convert more wide open shots and we don't stand a chance. We haven't defended well the majority of the series. Like 90+% of it. We haven't played well on offense 90+% of the series. We can't keep playing like garbage. We have not shown any signs of having a good team game basically at all this post season.

The Cavs are down 41 at half to the Pacers.KnixinSix wrote:I was hoping the addition of Mitch would make the team better under Thibs.
Well while it did help I think it is abundantly clear at this point that Thibs system does not maximize the potential of the personell.
When they win in these playoffs, they have been winning on extremely difficult shot making and supremely clutch individual efforts to barely squeak out a victory. The majority of each game is filled with inconsistency and one on one iso with not nearly the type of ball movement and flow to an offense you normally see from the top NBA teams.
Look Thibs was amazing for this team when we had less talent because he gets players giving their 100% most of the time and is a floor raiser for sure.
However when he has a lot of talent his system isnt ideal because the ball movement isnt great at all and he overuses his starters. The defense is overly complicated and leaves guys wide open from 3.
I look at how the Cavs had a very significant uptick under Atkinson/Bryant with almost the same squad. I believe the same would happen here under the right coach.
In the offseason promote Thibs to GM (or somethign in the front office) and bring in Johnnie Bryant or another guy to get this team playing truly complementary team ball. You have 4 guys in your starting lineup who all can easily pop off for 20 plus. Superior ball movement would be huge in getting the most out of this team and a simpler defense that utilizes our many players high level of defensive abilities also will make a big difference.

Pacers giving the Cavs an a$$ whooping tonight and will be going up 3-1. I pray we can do the same. Just one game where we shoot lights out, our offense looks coherent and we play solid team defense. Is that too much to ask for?!

maybe. i'd love a day like that too. but someone generally has to lay down for you to get all that at once all game long in the playoffs. let alone against the defending champions.
we likely going to have to get it the greasy way. the winning in different ways part.
i think physicality is the way to rattle the celtics. we made them uncomfortable down the stretch in our 2 wins on their floor.

I think it speaks more to where is this Kenny Atkinson brilliance? Higher seed, best record, homecourt and embarrased 2 out the 4 games and down 3-1 in the series.Jeff Van Gully wrote:TKKnicks1 wrote:Pacers giving the Cavs an a$$ whooping tonight and will be going up 3-1.
