I always loved the free agent trade thread. But it seems like as usual. This too much optimism in favor of boston. Brown is on the oldest side of his prime. And I don't know if you are going to get any young studs for him in return.

At least this season should not be boring to say released.

That and with his contract size he’s a negative asset relative to the contract cost.

That’s not a knock on JB, but we have to be honest with ourselves.

Even though it’ll take years to turn into anything special, if Boston blows this series then I hope there’s a serious look at making a run for Flagg - only D White and Pritchard are off the table.

I will be shocked if whomever wins FLAGG would even accept a trade for Tatum and Brown. If salaries would even be possible. But if we are too tear this thing down it absolutely must start with our stupid coach.

We always assume crazy things never happen and they do anyway. You never know which GM’s are on the hot seat and don’t have the runway to build through the draft, or maybe another from a third team sitting on injured junk they have to unload to save face.

I could easily see taking on some short term garbage to unload one of these designated max deals and getting Flagg back in return.

But we’ll see how I feel at 6pm. I don’t see any reality where anybody who just spent $6.1b is going to be okay with what’s happening.

I’m not sure what you’ve been reading if anything half the posts are Boston getting smoked in trades to get under the 2nd apron because of this weird dynamic where everyone wants to be a financial advisor to the owner.

Whoever gets Flagg if they got an offer from Boston for Tatum and Brown would run…run to accept it. If you thought Nico got it bad…Stevens would be on the next plane out of town too. But yeah Flagg and saving money. Great. That’s a trade only Paul Gaston would force the Celtics to make.

Duran would be a good get. I kinda wish Sac didn’t trade Fox at the deadline. I’d have swapped JB for him too and we honestly probably gotten a pick out of it.

Don’t think we’re definitive contenders next year if that proposed trade were to happen.

No. Boston would be around the 4-8th seed. But it would make a certain segment of the base happy by getting under the 2nd apron and trading JB. I’m not sure why you make that trade in reality but clearly it’s not only about basketball with Brown.

You can actually so long as the effect of the trade is that you drop out of the 2nd apron.

Like, for example:

Jrue + KP to Detroit for Tobias Harris + Fontecchio

the result is payroll drops below $207.8 million apron line and so you would be able to aggregate and the trade would be legal.

Still feel STRONGLY that the move this offseason is to move Brown and Move KP for a bigman who is reliable and another 6'8 to 6'10 player who can take over PF duties for Tatum and let him slide back over to SF.

KP and a celtics pick to Pelicans
Herb Jones and Olynyk to Boston

Brown to Utah Jazz
Kessler, Collins, Clarkson, Their first (assuming it isnt the #1 pick as they wouldnt trade that) and the MInny first (#21)

(sheds about 13 million in salary) and Olynyk, Collins and Clarkson are exirings. (can be traded for salary savings to other teams)

Jrue/Pritchard
White/Clarkson/Baylor
Tatum/Hauser/Walsh
Jones/Horford/Collins
Kessler/Kornet/Queta

They have no picks and no one worth anything outside of Luka and LeBron. Yeah you could trade Reeves but Milwaukees GM would be killed more than Nico for any deal with the Lakers.

So the 2nd best player and finals MVP is your default? Like I get if people say Porzingis and Jrue but you don’t trade Brown if you want to contend unless it’s for someone like Giannis.

The time for the greatest trade in franchise's history is now.
Giannis has 4-5 years in front of him of elite play.
He's coming off back to back 30/12/6 seasons on 62% from the floor. And these are not even his MVP years(lol).
I would trade anyone on the roster regardless of how the season will end.
Make it happen.

Return to Boston Celtics
