I don't think it's rigged, but this is the worst possible look for the league.

This is crazy, but there are a couple holes to poke in the rigged conspiracy. If Kyrie and AD didn't get injured, Mavs probably make the playoffs, though not guaranteed. Also, why did they win their first play in game vs Sacramento, knowing that if they missed the playoffs they would get the number 1 pick? I suppose this could've been part of covering the conspiracy to make it look like they tried to make the playoffs. Thats all I can think of to debunk conspiracy.

Has a team ever jumped that far to win the lottery?

Of course. You just got a bunch of people who know nothing about how the lottery works and happily displaying their ignorance in the thread.

I think sometimes people don't realize how flattened lottery odds have become in recent years to not incentivize tanking

You can’t say it’s rigged AFTER the result. I didn’t see anyone saying they were going to rig for Dallas an hour ago. We’ve seen teams move up before. It’s not some new occurrence. The Pelicans moved up for Zion. Was that rigged too?

I get that it feels rigged with 4 teams jumping, but it’s not possible to rig. There’s no benefit in it.

I don't think this is rigged at all. The NBA has nothing to gain from this. I would think the NBA would prefer Cooper in Utah or Char where they badly need a star or in Brooklyn to fit the big city narrative. So now the narrative is to send Cooper to Dallas to make Mavs fans Happy? I think the theories are just dumb.

If it is, I hope they can't ever prove it and all of us who bet on this after the Luka trade get our money

The idea is that the Mavs were forced to trade Luka to the Lakers and in exchange were promised the #1 overall pick.

The Cavs had a 1.7% chance the year they drafted Wiggins. They were 9th though as the distribution of the odds were much slanted towards the worse teams.

You know even if it wouldn't be rigged (which I'm sure it is) the league should have just told Ernst and Young supervisors that no way in hell they can give the top pick to the Mavs after all the media attention and switch few top spots.
