Silver Lining - Good things we got BI and now 4.4M under the luxury tax

Post#1 » by anotherhomer » Mon May 12, 2025 11:53 pm

I know everyone's disappointed in the draft results, but it was known the reason why we tanked was to not jump up but to avoid dropping too much.

9th overall is a good pick, it gets us a good player in a loaded draft. saves us about 1.6M in cap space, so we now at 183.58M, so 4.4M space

Also. This is why i'm glad raps didn't put all the eggs in one basket, and picked up BI.
A really good move in hindsight, and ensures raps can compete, esp now that bucks is likely trading Giannis

Yeah good thing we can treadmill, and stay under the luxury tax, so our billionaire owners can save money and then POTENTIALLY get playoff revenue.

Such a W

But heyyyyyy we got Brandon Ingram to save the day. Let's be better than Milwaukee without Giannis!

Real talk...

**** all those fake wins in the second half of the season. We put up with a crap product to pick 9th, because this team chased fake wins. The fans have a right to be pissed.

Lets be real, we would still fall even if we were 5th or 6th worst. Nba knew who it wanted in the top

Exactly. There is absolutely no way we wouldn't have dropped. The draft order is predetermined.

So you think you have figured this out, but the tanking teams were caught off guard?

Did they just pay fines and alienate their fans and players to keep up appearances for the league?

How deep does this go?

Bro no point arguing.

We all see it, but this small minority is telling us that chasing these fake wins didn't ruin our season.

FFS if SA doesn't out tank us last season Wembanyama is a Raptor... and SA is a smaller market compared to Toronto... unless the conspiracy theory is SA traded us Kawhi because the NBA forced them, so we can win a championship and then he can go to LA

Give me a break.

Maybe it's time to bump the TWO thread so you can complain all day and night in there.

They weren't caught off guard. They're still picking 4-6. It's incredibly naive to think the draft isn't rigged.

Raptors could have always traded down while obtaining additional assets if fans care about saving MLSE or soon to be Rogers millions of dollars to put in their pockets. People act like they lower ticket prices with how much they care about exceeding the tax or not loll.

4.2M in luxury tax space after factoring in Pick #9's Year 1 rookie scale hit of 6.3M, means that the Raptors can carry a 15-man roster next season while remaining under the tax threshold (excluding the 3 two-way guys), if the remaining 3 roster spots are are filled by 3 rookie minimum deals (Pick #39 will likely be 1 of them).

Scottie
Ingram
IQ
RJ
Poeltl
Gradey
Ja'Kobe
Ochai
Shead
Mogbo
Battle
Pick #9

That's 12 locked in NBA contracts next season. Castleton and Lawson at $0 guaranteed but luxury tax hits worth more than the rookie minimum means they could both be easily cut and replaced with Pick #39 and 2 other rookie minimum deals to round out a 15-man roster instead of 14.

Another one is we still have Masai and Bobby running the draft. This could end up better than some of us might think.

Absolutely no chance I am getting excited about the 50 games we will get out of BI next year. I do think the pick will likely work out though. The vision has been terrible lately, but Masai can still draft.

Is that enough to bring back Boucher?

Is there a back up C we can get for cheap?

If we wanted Harper or Flagg we needed to play a little better. If we hadn't of tanked those last two weeks when we had a damn easy schedule we would have passed the Spurs no problem and had the 2nd pick.

Oh well, Masai going to grab a top 3 player at 9 anyway.

Is there room for:

Did you not pay attention to the lottery? Mavericks and Spurs got the 1st and 2nd overall picks. Look where the Jazz, Pelicans and Wizards are picking. It was a disaster of a night for teams that tanked the hardest. Complete and utter disaster.

This is my biggest worry too. His whole career is filled with shortened seasons.

I also don't get how people expected us to out tank the teams below us. Other than arguably Philly who just had a disaster of a season, all the teams that finished below us have significantly less talent on the roster. We even made trades to get rid of veteran depth (Brown, Olynyk and Mitchell) for zero immediate contribution.

We came in to this with expected draft spot of 7th and people are absolutely losing their minds we fell to 9th
