Can't pay $400m/yr for a middling team.

Unload the big contracts. Especially anybody on a $300m contract that isn't sure how to dribble a basketball.

If Tatum is out with and Achilles injury, then you absolutely have to do a reset. I do not know how anyone here can question that.

I would keep derek white and peyton pritchard.. Probably get something decent in return from.

Anything for KP and anything for Jrue? That's reasonable..

And please for the sake of God. Get me a coach who knows how to acclimate young players and develop them. I would be all over Taylor Jenkins. But I would also give Sam caselle a shot. Joe must go..

Ah back to the days of players like All Jefferson, Sully, Ryan gomes etc and the board being way more positive because they were " Developing"... Can't wait

I'm on board with the three safe players.

The part that sucks is that it will be impossible to find anybody stupid enough to take on Jaylen Brown. I'd even trade an injured Dame right now just to be done with him and let JT have his team when he recovers.

Why does this board have a hard on for tanking? They’ll retool but not tank.

There is zero chance ownership is going to pay out the nose for a team with no Tatum and no chance to win a title. It’s just a matter of to which degree they dismantle the team.

I can't speak for others. But the most miserable thing for me would be a middle of the pack team with no chance to contend and yet be no better than a good lottery team..

If Tatum misses the year we may not even make the playoffs . Get some good value for some of our players. While they still have some.

Then everyone's entitled to that opinion. But it seems like it is a no brain off for me.

Ah yes... But surprisingly the board was all about it year after year.... The better we got with... The more negative it became

Was really hoping y'all would repeat this year. Such a bummer. Hopefully JT makes a full recovery, but that's a long, slow recovery and not every player comes back the same after it. Damn shame.

Jrue, KP, Brad, Joe and the Owners failed this team this season

Post#1372 » by return2glory » Tue May 13, 2025 2:41 am

We knew repeating was not going to be easy. The last time the Boston Celtics repeated as champs was in 1969.

Where did it all go wrong?

1. The ownership wanted to sell. They knew they overpaid a lot of their players. They were concerned more about selling than repeating.

2. Jrue's game fell off the cliff this season. All his numbers were down drastically. From his shooting, to his rebounding and defense. That was a huge sign for me that we weren't winning it all this season. He was such a huge factor last season.

3. Brad didn't address the bigs. He knew KP could not be counted on. Al was going to be 39. They didn't trust in Queta nor Tillam. Instead they went went with Kornet. I love Kornet. Great teammate, great 11th or 12th man. He isn't physical enough to be counted on in the playoffs. Much like KP.

4. Joe. I like Joe. But any coach that gives up 3 second half leads of 15 points or more in the same playoff series, isn't the best coach to lead this team. I wish he finds a great coaching job elsewhere or comes back as an assistant here.

The Knicks were not given any credit by most Celtic fans here. They were the better team. Had the better coach and the better starting 5. When you have Al at nearly 39 in your starting lineup, that is a huge weakness. Jrue should not longer be a start here and should not return. Same with KP.
Credit to the Knicks as far as this series goes. With that being said, Boston gave the series away by blowing 2 20 point 2nd half leads at home and ended up being down 0-2. The series was over then.

Going forward, this team needs a new head coach. Brad needs to somehow trade Jrue and KP and hopeful get back a 20 and 10 big that can score in the post, rebound and defend. This team has no legit post scorer.

I said all season, Boston is a good as White and Jrue will take them. The problem was Jrue wasn't good anymore.
I'm grateful for last season. Championships are rare in sports and last year was only the 2nd title since the 1986 season. And a lot of teams have not won 2 in that time span.

I trust in Brad to made this team better.

The thing is this board likes gritty players. This is why Marcus Smart was the most popular Celtic on here that I can remember. If you remember correctly some people were also mad that the Celtics last year looked too much like the Lakers teams that had more finesse than grit. This place would rather have a grit and grind 42 win team than a title squad that finesses there way to a title. Stars are bad but overachieving role players are good.

The new ownership is a wrinkle in all of this.

They won’t pay 500 million for this core without Tatum so there will be changes, it’s the harsh reality.

But we got a championship from this core so it’s hard to lament too much. I have a lot of faith in Brad.

Agreed, it starts with the guy who makes way too much money.

I'd start with seeking out aging/injured players (on shorter contracts) on teams who still should have some life in them and it would be mutually benefical.

Two obvious trades that work right now
PHX - Get Durant (1 season) out and get some youth in PHX, maybe PHX makes the play-in (we won't)
MIL - Trade injured Dame (2 seasons) and convince GIannis it's worth staying

We 100% have to get out of this JB contract, his value will be exposed with JT missing.

the tatum injury will be the perfect excuse the owners need to completely gut the core. there will be major changes and they won't have to face any backlash for completely overhauling the roster to not pay the tax bill

Lot of posters dying to trade places with the Jazz and Hornets. You can always, you know, just root for those teams. Tanking doesn’t work. Just look at the draft lottery tonight.

This is untrue. When the San Antonio Spurs lost David Robinson, they tanked for 1 year. End up getting tim duncan and the return of david robinson..

Boston needs to tank 1 year without Tatum. Hopefully get a nice upgrade in talent. And then tatum returns to a competitive roster again.

Utah and Charlotte do not have adjacent Tatum level talent. That's why they are stuck

I don't hate this. And I thought the same thing. SA with Robinson and then Duncan.
The most charitable interpretation is that it's ethnic cleansing and massive war crimes.
