I don't know where to look for the stat but it's been mentioned many times here that Tatum's plus/minus is off the charts, which shows how critical he is for this team (even if the team is STACKED).
All this Tatum negative criticism reminds me of the same thing going on with Pierce 20 years ago. Today Pierce is a Celtic legend and a hall-of-famer, and Tatum will be too when the time comes.
We're lucky to have him, spoiled even. If Tatum wasn't a Celtic, these complainers would sacrifice their left nut if that helped to bring him in.
You are 100% right on that Paul Pierce thing going on 20 years ago.
The negativity on Tatum now is just absurd.
A case of can't please everyone I guess.
No.
It's not hating on Tatum. It's pushing back on the contrived narrative that he's some elite superstar that gets paid like a guy you can count on to take over big games when your team needs him the most.
The plain fact is, he's not that guy. Never has been.
And as far as the revisionist history on Pierce goes, he never got right in the head until KG was brought here. Or are you forgetting him showing up to post game pressers with his head wrapped up in bandages? Or making the comment upon KG's arrival that he was going to have to get in shape and start playing defense now?
Denial ain't just a river in Egypt.
With all due respect, who cares if Tatum is a superstar, an MVP, or none of that? He's the absolute best player that's worn green in a very long time, likely top 3 in the last 40 years. He's already brought a championship to the city.
Also, Pierce didn't really mature as a player until his late 20's. As a person you could even make the case that he hasn't matured yet. Still, he was by far the best player we had and people here couldn't stop complaining about him. When he got real help, the real Pierce showed up.
It's OK to criticize Tatum 24/7 for everything that he's not, but also remember what he is. Because what he isn't pales in comparison to what he is.
