Re: Dallas Mavericks 2025 Trade thread -- Roster and Cap
Man, Tim MacMahon is playing 4D chess with Nico, he surprises him with the Casey Smith question, knowing what happened with the Lively debacle, gets him to give a wrong answer, publishes his piece and forces him to backtrack it and fire the "better people" after claiming they showed "the strength of our medical staff".
Nico is way out of his league and MacMahon is out for his blood, my guess is he has a mole in the FO and it's most likely Finley.
I signed up for Baketball, but this drama you won't find in any telenovela.

PJ moving playing around 15 mpg at SF and 15-20 mpg at PF. With someone like Kai Jones as a 3rd string.
Backcourt help is what's needed. This team is starving for a creator, particularly with Kyrie out for an extended period.
Still think we need 3 legit centers on this team not including Davis. Powell is not legit so I'd sign Jones and either draft Maluach or sign Brown, Sharp to have some serious size/length insurance considering Lively's injury history.
I like Jones as a possible rotation guy but I'd still feel more comfortable with a 7'2+ option if we lose Lively for any length of time.
Gaff is as good as gone and I only hope Nico can get equal or better value in return.
I agree and I like the idea of Kai Jones being that 3rd center/developmental guy. If they trade Gaff for a PG/creator (and can keep their pick) I would not be upset with them drafting a center to backup Lively. The kid from Duke possibly?

Drafting Maluach would also give Mavs option to shop Lively who might also yield a better playmaking guard.
Lively is my favorite Mav but he will demand a big contract and his injury history is a deep concern. Maluach just starting a rookie deal would buy some time and allow Mavs to re-sign Gaff on a 3 year deal.

I would hate to trade Lively too but we’ve already been shown that absolutely no one is untouchable.

Trade anyone but Flagg. No Giannis, no KD, please, do NOT move the damn pick.

Nico has to be the luckiest SOB on the planet...this feels rigged
How confident are you he wont f..k this up by not drafting Flagg or possibly trading him....we know he doesn't see himself here longterm

Because it is rigged. Just enjoy the show. It's sports entertainment.

The full trade:
Luka Doncic, Maxi Kleber
For
Anthony Davis, Max Christie, Cooper Flagg and 1st round pick
I would keep an eye out for the 2029 1st round pick because knowing how rigged this is, that may be another lottery pick that Silver is fixing.

If Nico were to trade Cooper Flagg, it has to be for one of his Nike guys. He's just not trading it for the sake of. You know his MO by now.
Or by some off chance it will be for some gross trade. Like Cooper Flagg for Ja Morant because Memphis got swept by 30 pts every game in the playoffs and that franchise is going nowhere. Those types.

Nico should be fired, he is clearly biased towards AD, Mavs have the 2nd best prospect in the league since 2018 draft, he can't be allowed to prioritize AD and Kyrie over him.

If he's part of that "handshake" deal, all the more he can't be fired or he will squeal. He's inner circle now with Silver, Buss and Klutch.
I'm just being realistic man. Loose ends don't get fired. They don't get to resign either. If you're in, you're in. Omerta.

I remembered in one of Nico's press conferences he said "this trade will have us set up to win now and in the future" with a smile. I didn't know when he said future he meant getting Flagg in the wink wink deal.
The dude clearly made a deal under the table. He's assembling the Duke Blue Devils. Might as well fire Kidd and get Coach K here.

There was no handshake deal, Nico made a terrible trade and it blew up in his face.
I do not however rule out league intervention, because a sell out crowd was about to bail on a franchise in a top 5 market.

Hey man. You're guess is as good as mine. But if it's rigged, it's rigged. There's no half rigged or rigged halfway. If they could fix this then they can tix anything behind the scenes.
To me, Flagg is the low cost star option to keep fans in their seats without paying the supermax. It increases your margins without the need to inject more capital. What that tone deaf guy did wrong is he didn't gauge how the fan base would react to Luka. All he sees is numbers being the GM. It's KPIs and nothing more to him.

Nah Nico is not that dumb. He's made good moves before the Luka trade. I never believed he did this without some weird corruption taking place. We just didn't know what they had planned. Now it makes sense. This was all Adam Silver trying to give his league a shot in the arm. I'm pissed he chose the Mavericks to do this to and we lost Luka because of it. But if Flagg is as good as he's hyped up to be, this might work out pretty damn good lol.

Agree.
I'm ok to refuse the rigged but it is what it is. Clear.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2025 Trade thread -- Roster and Cap
LBJ needs Love in order to return in Ohio? Cleveland wins the lottery with 1.7% odds, so they have enough to trade for KL.
LBJ and the LAL need AD to turn into a legit title contender? LAL get the 4th pick with 1.8% odds (immediately traded to NOLA) and Pels the 1st overall with 6% odds.
And then the Mavs with 1.8% odds.
It's the third time that happens under Silver.
Just coincidences I guess.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2025 Trade thread -- Roster and Cap
This is the time when you need to trade Gaff and PJ for someone like Desmond Bane since Gaff and PJ are to be paid larger contracts in a year anyway. Bane fits next to Kyrie, AD and Flagg finish the game at C and PF anyway.
The thing with AD is he just doesn't like playing C the whole game. But he can close it out at C. Everybody moves 1 spot back up.
