I have read what happened from both sides viewpoints before the trade. I know Wolves fans have their own biased one sided view of it.

When MIN decided to give Wiggins a baby max deal, it ended up being slightly higher than what Jimmy was making in his final year of the deal he signed in Chicago. He demanded to be paid the full max. MIN said, “Sure, but you are under contract one more year. According to the CBA, we can legally give you two choices - an extension (though with a 120% raise, it will be slightly below the full max), or finish the season you’re signed for, and we’ll give you the full max next year. Your choice.”

Jimmy declined both options, and said, “I recuse to play the last year of my deal if it’s less than Wiggins. You can still renegotiate my deal.” This is technically legal under the CBA, but deals can only be renegotiated for teams with cap space, and in this case a team would need to be a full max under the cap. MIN’s payroll, like most teams, was sitting just under the luxury threshold, so Jimmy wanted the team to somehow pay to get most of the team off the books, with KAT and Wiggins on max deals. Jimmy did beat the starters with the bench, screaming “pay me” to Wolves brass while he did it. The starters thought it was amusing until Jimmy called them out, and they demanded a rematch, but Jimmy had left practice. He had planned this outburst, because he rushed home where Rachel Nichols (who he was having an affair with at the time) was waiting at his house to interview him about his staged tirade, and make this a big national story. Towns took a major hit to his reputation and was labeled “soft” for five years. Jimmy made the locker room so toxic, that months later, he got his wish and was traded. After the trade, Jimmy has dodged coming to play in Minnesota for years, and was given the nickname “General Soreness” because this was the excuse he used on the injury report to avoid flying to MIN to play.
