What are the tax ramifications if Tatum misses the entire season?

Trade creates 18.5 million in payroll savings next season (TPE) can maybe be used to pick up a starting PF if Tatum misses the season.
you're churning 'em out! And while I mostly want to dream of Giannis, Bam is likely a more realistic target, and while I've grown to dislike him on the Heat (due to some dirty plays vs Boston) I could totally get behind a swap in which Jaylen and Bam are the principals.

As difficult as it may be, my plan would be trade JB KP Hauser and Jrue and save as much salary as possible. Get whatever assets as possibly. Tank next year and get the best possible draft pick/s and while having enough Cap space to sign a near Max level player. 2026 we get a top draft pick a stud FA and a healthy JT back.
That my fine people is the only way to go.

Miami wants to move Herro. I don’t see why they move Bam?

If it's the achilles, you don't rush that back. Give him the entire season and let him enjoy a summer for once.

No
Trade options FROM the Celtics are as follows.
1. Brown
2. Jrue
3. Kristaps
4. White
5. Tatum
If White can get you in the lottery why wouldn't you want to start building that way?
Maybe Charles Lee can convince his FO that JB is necessary piece for them.
Other than that, the Spurs, Philly, DA will not want his contract.
Does Ime want JB for #10 Sheppard and Van Fleet? I don't see them trading Green for JB.

Let's see what happens. Demaryius Thomas tore his achilles late December and was cleared for training camp. Nobody is saying to rush him, we'll just have to see what the diagnosis is and to what degree it is torn.

I read that Miami is interested in Moving Bam because they cannot build around him.
Bam plugs into out lineup perfectly, imo.
Jrue and Kristaps makes Miami MUCH better.
PG: Jrue
SG: Herro
SF: Highsmith
PF: JJJr
C: Kristaps
Bam and filler makes us better (when healthy again)
PG: White
SG: Brown
SF: Wiggins
PF: Tatum
C: Bam

Instead of trading JB why not run it back with him as the centerpiece? Best case scenario he crushes it and worst case is that he still gains value as the number 1 on a decent squad.

I would take that Green kid, was his name Green from their squad? Wouldn't trade Brown for anybody else on their team. Long term, maybe Sengun, too.
Houston seems like a good trade partner. They need one more experienced, top level star to get to the next level in the playoffs, and if Udoka is high on Brown he could fit right in, even be the "man" next to Sengun, Thompson, VanVleet. Green sort of shrunk in the spotlight. JB would be the best player in a trade, but the Celtics need some depth and young talent.

Don't we just get that injured player exemption? I don't believe there is actual tax relief

Thats fine too.
But we NEED to make a deal.
We NEED a center at a minimum and we NEED a forward, especially if Tatum misses a bunch of time.
So, what center and what forwardcan Kristaps and/or Jrue bring in.

I don't see Houston moving Green AND the #10 pick. Regardless how he played. Ime really liked that kid.

For sure. They’ll need to make a deal. But there’s a difference between retooling and blowing it up. But you can trade KP and still make a run with Jrue White Brown and others.

Re: Free Agent, (Trade), Buyout, Extension & Conversion Thread, 2025 con't
Trade #1:
BOS gives: Jrue Holiday
BOS gets: Gave Vincent, Maxi Kleber, Drew Eubanks, 2nd rounders from LAL
Why? See below.
LAL gives: Gabe Vincent, Maxi Kleber, 2nd rounders
LAL gets: Norm Powell
Why? They consolidate the useless expiring money to Vincent/Kleber to useful expiring money to Powell. Either gives them a more attractive salary filler to use in a deal for a big by including Powell as one good player vs. 2 **** players or they can keep Powell and use Knect as the trade bait like they tried to at the deadline if that works better.
LAC gives: Norm Powell, Drew Eubanks
LAC gets: Jrue Holiday
Why? Great on court fit next to Harden and on the timeline with Kawhi for nothing but Balmer's money. Quintessential glue guy type of player for a team like them. As the years go by on his contract and they start having picks to trade, he can become the salary filler in a deal to transition to a post Kawhi/Harden era.
Trade #2:
MIL gives: Dame Lillard
MIL gets: Paul George
Why? Last ditch effort to keep Giannis. PG might be a bad contract, but unlike Dame he can at least suit up next year. They take on an extra contract year as part of an effort to build a team Giannis will give another shot.
PHI gives: Paul George, #3
PHI gets: Jaylen Brown
Why? Use the #3 to turn what looks like a dead weight contract to a guy with still prime years left.
BOS gives: Brown
BOS gets: Dame, #3 pick
Why? See below.
Presumably Ace Bailey would be the #3 pick. We still have #28 and #32. Our roster would be:
Pritchard / Vincent / Davison / Dame (injured)
White / Schierman
Ace Bailey / Walsh
Hauser / Tatum (injured)
Porzingis / Kleber / Queta / Tillman / Eubanks
+ #28 and #32 picks
That's 17 players, which I think we might be able to keep because of the hardship exception for Tatum/Dame. But irrelevant because they'd look to shed some of that dead weight filler salary. But big picture, the plan here is to tank for a year. Be a fun little run and gun team. Next year you have Porzingis/Vincent/Kleber/Eubanks all expiring, if not dumped sooner for immediate savings.
We'd have a below the tax roster with Tatum/White/Pritchard/Bailey/Hauser/Scheierman and whatever picks we keep. Our pick would presumably be high and you can package that with Dame's then-expiring salary for a financially viable co-star with that core.

I want to do the OKC route and trade any and every contract possible. we could even get more draft picks as teams trade an expiring contract into our Cap space. Unlike Utah, OKC had a great player to build around in SGA. In 2026 we will have Tatum back with a ton of options possibly.

I'm in favor of retooling.
> Move KP and Jrue. Jrue is alright but not at his current price. (What could we realistically get for them?)
> Build around Brown and White (and maybe Pritchard?) while waiting for Tatum return.
> I think this team peaks as a play-in team, which is the worst case for any NBA team, but this team would still be too good to bottom out.
I think we'd still need a starting big. I'd like someone who could score a bit in the post, just to add a bit of variety to the offense. I like the Bam idea, though I have no idea how we'd get him. Also like the John Collins idea being floated around. And a really random name that I really like is OKC's Jaylin Williams.
