I'm saying his actions bely his words. He was really hoping he didn't have to pick so low, or else why go through all the shenanigans (pulling starters with the lead, benching Boucher in a UFA year). If he was that confident 3 was as good as 12, he wouldn't have needed to be so shameless in his approach. To me, his comments are just common GM speak. They're always happy with where they draft, and they always get their guy, who they always had mocked higher.
I don't really think he is, I've been consistently saying the only result he wanted to avoid was the play-in and "accidentally" making the playoffs which would have resulted in no chance at Flagg and being locked in at 15th while getting curb stomped by Cleveland. That would have been a disastrous result for the season we had. He took those measures because our end of season schedule was a joke and those teams in the play-in spots were struggling badly.
I don't think there was much of a chance of the play-in at that time. There was a consistent message through the media outlets that they were still aiming for top 5. Even still, if you didn't want to win both play-in games you could throw those games with the same measures.
Through 57 games
Raptors 18-39
Bulls 22-35
4 games back, you don't think we had a chance at making the play-in?
lol c'mon throwing a play-in game? How realistic does that sound?
