I think 2027 free agency should be the goal, unless there's a real home run, and a 37 year old Jrue at 37 mill cutting in to that is not a homerun I would want.

I watched Jrue these past few games and his defense is still very good. Tell me what Kuzma does well.

Remember the Bucks aren't going to have any good picks of their own, so there is no benefit to losing. If I was going to tank, Kuzma would be my first draft choice.

Sure, but these aren't the only 2 choices we have.

Bucks are never signing a big time free agent. The goal is stay afloat and get Giannis to extend while you wait for the 2026 offseason when you can send out some draft picks and Dame’s expiring salary for something to help out Giannis. Jrue doesn’t block that. In fact his expiring salary the following offseason gives you another path to trade for a higher paid guy.

Expiring big money deals are going to be extremely valuable when second apron teams need a path to get out of second apron hell.

Jrue's massive salary blocks being able to use exceptions.

This. His defense still looks good and he can hit corners threes and bully small guards. He’d obviously be even worse than he was before if you asked him to be the second option on offense and create for himself but that’s why you keep KPJ around. You’d legit have Jrue in the corner shooting threes and he’s massively better at that than Kuz.

Even this version of Jrue is a much better fit around Giannis than Kuz is. And if you are getting him plus an asset for Kuz and Pat, that’s turning a massive negative player and a non rotational guy into an at least neutral rotational guy. This is before discussing what value Jrue would have as a mentor for KPJ and Rollins.

Assuming we keep Kuzma for the duration (hope not) we clear his salary at the same time we clear Dame's. As opposed to an extra year of $34 million for 37 year old Jrue. The nostalgia thing is clouding up some thinking. If he ever gets bought out, sure. Easy no on $100 million.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

You don't need to sign a big time free agent to spend money.

Remember our last big FA spree? In 2016 we had to overpay to get Delly, Telly and keep Plumlee.

It doesn’t work in Milwaukee.

But you also need to placate Giannis and not tank in the meantime and Kuz ain’t doing that.

Neither is Jrue. Have you watched him in the playoffs?

We didn't have a 2x MVP then.

I was assuming Giannis gone. But even then a heavy lift.

This. I love the thought process of trading 2031 1st for Reeves while Kuz and Doc will 100% tank whatever you try to build then getting to the 27 offseason with $80M in expiring salary to trade but no picks so no deals. Then getting to the 28 offseason and hoping Giannis doesn’t leave after he has five first straight first round exits and thinking that somehow the Bucks will keep Giannis AND sign another max player with all that cap space.

The path being suggested here is a good way to guarantee Giannis leaves in two years and you face five years of no firsts.

Yeah, I'm not advocating line up 2027 cap space to rebuild without Giannis.

you guys do realize that if we keep kuz and he puts up half way decent regular season stats he'll have positive value right?

be dumb to deal him in the offseason. hes giannis regular season backup on nights he rests. a huge regular season minutes getter. theres a bobby element to him.

we need to retain jericho sims...add an upgrade or similar level guy next to him.

we need to retain kpj and gtj and prince......add to the stable of those types.

push ajg and rollins out there more.

try to deal dame for blue sky. if we could that would be amazing. i wouldnt be shocked if its possible tho. look at what durant went for after his achilles a year in advance

if giannis wants out fine but the east is sooooo wide open. if i was him id be watching all of this and getting pissed at myself....maybe doc.....not the franchise.

How about when we signed Brook Lopez or Bobby Portis?

Return to Milwaukee Bucks
