Spurs/Sac

Post#1 » by SNPA » Wed May 14, 2025 1:49 am

Sabonis for any salary combo that works of Vassell/Johnson/Barnes/Sochan and #2.

Sac resets around Harper as the future.

Spurs go for a title. VW and Sabonis wreck the league.

I like Sabonis more than most. But I can't see San Antonio trading 2 plus decent salary for him.

Also Wemby shoots a bunch of 3's, but for San Antonio to get where they want, they need him playing inside where he can dominate. So I'm not actively looking to give a premium asset to pair him with a guy who also dominates inside.

Didn't Kings fans learn anything about asset valuation in the Fox trade thread? They were telling everyone who wanted to listen they'd get Castle and or the Spurs pick, just look at how horrendous of a deal that would have been for the Spurs. I think this proposal is closer to even without the 2nd pick, but I´d have no interest in Sabonis' contract.

Don't generalize. This is one poster.

Yeah, we learned again our owner will interfere and make a GM prioritize a player/value he shouldn’t. Spurs got lucky Vivek has wanted LaVine for years and they took advantage of the situation. Good for them. That doesn’t change Sabonis’ value.

A Sabonis/VW frontline destroys every night. They’d be instant contenders.

And this is violating the board policy against absurd counters, suggesting fair value for Sabonis is okay matching salary and then suggesting you are too good for that.

Every other post from you is insulting other posters and setting values that favor the Spurs in very lopsided ways--while attacking an entire fanbase for the very thing you habitually do.

As others have said, the Spurs have no interest in this. They aren't interested in Sabonis in general, never mind for the #2.

Sabonis has to play at the 5. Obviously the Spurs are set there.

This is a big overpay for Sabonis. From a value standpoint, he's worth around the 5-7th pick in the draft. The Dylan Harper pick should be able to land the Spurs a player better than Sabonis, even if the contracts they're sending out are not necessarily great contracts. Also the opportunity cost is massive. This trade would basically take them out of the running for Giannis and forget about clearing enough cap space to sign Luka in 2026, unless the Spurs are willing to trade Sabonis after just one year.

Huh? This isn´t an absurd counter at all, in an apron era I have a close to max contract on a center who makes almost impossible to put together a winning team around him as borderline negative. I'd 100% rather have Vassell and Sochan than be hamstrung by Sabonis. You disagreeing with my valuation of a player is objectively not an insult, that's just ridiculous.

Also, the idea that I put lopsided trades is also false.I'm actually very careful not to propose ridiculously lopsided ideas, but I do object to most lopsided ideas against the Spurs which time and time and again I'm proven correct. It's easily verifiable in the Fox thread and many others, where my proposals were even more benevolent than the ones that ended up happening. A lot more often than not when I have a strong take and a deal ends up happening I'm closer on valuation, or given hindsight.

Knueppel level? Really? lol.

If the Spurs can get Giannis then do it. I don’t see Pop’s plan being waiting on and hoping for Luka.

This trade only makes sense if the Spurs want to be contenders next year. If they want that, this achieves it.

Just to get this out of the way, Pop is not the GM of the Spurs. The exec title he has now is one he's always had. Brian Wright is still the GM.

Anyway, no to this deal. The Spurs shouldn't shut down the idea of Wemby playing with a center. But they shouldn't pay a star price just to explore. I don't have Sabonis that high on my list as well.

While I agree that it is possible that you field the best actual offer for Giannis (OKC and HOU at least will have better and more assets if they get serious about Giannis), please do not post fantasies about Luka signing ANYWHERE long term but LAL. They will give him all they can and the market will attract co stars. He is the post LeBron plan.
