It has nothing to do with talent and ability.

The new CBA is harsh on teams with multiple max players.

Next season the salary cap will be around 155m.

JT and JB will have a combined salary of 107m.

Two players consuming 70% of your cap space?

What the Cs have is an anomaly because there is really a very small chance 2 players on the same team become eligible for a supermax extension.

It took KD a couple of seasons and a few injuries during that time to get back to playing 70 games. He was only 30 when he tore his Achilles.

Kobe was 35 and it took a limited season to get to playing 60 games before he retired.

I always think compensation injuries happen along the way which is what i believe happened with KD

Sure. But when Tatum decides to ask out in a few years because he doesn’t want to be stuck in a perpetual rebuild, you won’t have to worry about it. Yes the repeater tax is real, the 2nd apron is real, but if you want to build a contender you’re going to have to go over.

No problem going over the cap.

That's not the issue.

It's going way over that results in losing the ability to assemble a good supporting cast.

The OKC model is the way to go.

1 supermax guy, 1 all-star caliber player, and a very good supporting cast.

Celtics were just lucky because the moves they made to get KP and Jrue were still under the old CBA.

If the new CBA fully kicked in back in 2023, the Cs would not have gotten Jrue and KP at such a low cost.

Yep. Is tough to get top 25 guys.

Holiday is likely gone. He still has some value to teams looking to contend next year.

Is doibtful Porzingis has any positive value so they might be stuck with him for another year and just let him expire.

The more I think about it the less likely I think they trade Brown. Business wise there is no way a new owner comes in and jettisons their home-grown 28 year old all-star for picks and rebuilding pieces. They're going to put a competitive team out there next year - unfortunately we all know it won't be to its potential with Tatum out but I'd be surprised if more than say Al retires and Jrue gets shipped out (and PP is the starter). Expecting a whole sale tear down is not realistic (nor IMO advisable).

From a basketball perspective Tatum and Brown are effectively on the same timeline. This isn't a case where you have a 27 year old Tatum and another 32 year old all star. Both these guys could easily play another 6+ (or more years). Brown has way more value to us than what we can get for him in all likelihood

Does it make sense to keep White? He'll be 31 next year. If you assume it takes a year for Tatum to get fully up to speed, White will be 33 by the time that happens. I feel like what they can trade White for now could very well be better (and more financially workable) than what White will be at that time.

Personally I’m not even into giving up the second year (on a scenario where JT is out next year).

Just think it’s too hard to get enough good players back in the house if they rip it to the studs. And there are only so many years left call it pre-32/33 JT personally I’m wary of punting more than one.

And Jokoc is kind of the no brianer haha good idea guy proposal but it also speaks to a larger point you have touched on a lot. Ie contract value. And I’ve been cautious about the trade JB train but his situation becomes more difficult upcoming when there will become a big focus on the most high value deals in the league.

Yeah, playoffs of the 2nd year is, wait for it.... 2 years from now. There could definitely be follow up injuries, so it's possibly he's not ready then, but I don't want to sell everyone off assuming he won't be.

That said, any deal could make sense if we get win-now guys back and balance the books a little. So, I always like seeing the proposals even knowing most won't happen.

Honestly, I’m not even ready yet to rule out next year’s playoffs. I know it’s a long shot for him to be recovered and playing well, but not impossible.

I saw a plausible 3 way trade proposal on Bleacher Report where Holiday goes to Detroit, Hauser goes to Brooklyn and Boston gets Isaiah Stewart and gets under the $207.8m 2nd apron.

We fans do get spoiled a bit. Sometimes even Boston Celtics must suck for a while lol. Remember it took Knicks YEARS to achieve this lol. Look at Philadelphia. Total disaster. Being a top 5 team in East is good for me. Banner 19 not coming any time soon

Gianis wants out of milwaukee now that Dame is hurt right? package Porzingis, Horford some picks etc for Gianis. Then get a deal on Durant. We can build around a Brown, Gianis, Durant core

If and only IF Mavs are serious about win now championship, they would be crazy if they won't take JB and DWhite for Flagg.

AD - champion
JB - champion
Kyrie - champion
DWhite - champion
Gafford/Lively - big men

That's one hell of a top 6.

It is. If Brown is admitted a top 25 guy, best case top 15ish it makes zero sense to deal him for picks and a top 50 ish guy if you’re going to want to be competitive for when Tatum comes back. If not then you probably move Tatum when he comes back and start over before he wants to be moved himself. Trading Brown for an upgrade is fine and should be explored, trading Brown with an eye towards rebuilding is something that should be avoided.

The thing is the fan base at times almost wants to suck. The Celtics have been relevant since 2008, let’s not go back to the 18 years prior to that when they were basketball Siberia. That could easily happen by blowing it up.

I could see Jrue and Porzingis moved to get under the cap considering that we won't contend without Tatum for at least 2 years. However, you take a chance pissing off Brown if you move Porzingis, his bestie outside of Tatum.

Boston will either move Jrue and Porzingis or move Brown. I don't see them gutting the team, but doing enough to get under the 2nd apron.

I had/have a dream that we trade Brown for either Flagg or #2.

Brown to Dallas for #1, Washington, Gafford, Christie and Klay

Brown to Spurs for #2, Vassell and Barnes.
