Starter for Starter: DAL - NOP

DAL in: McCollum
DAL out: Gafford, Martin, Hardy

Why? Land a vet lead guard to hold the fort till Ky comes back and clear some future money. McCollum is experienced and more than capable of carrying the load as a great PnR player and volume 3-pt shooter, while being a decent passer. Meanwhile Gafford wants to be paid starter money.

NOP in: Gafford, Martin, Hardy
NOP out: McCollum

Why? Get a starting center to complement their core and clear way for younger guards to prosper (Hawkins, Jakucionis). Gafford fits their timeline and could be there for the long run.

(Irving)/McCollum/Williams
Thompson/Christie
Flagg/Marshall
Davis/Washington
Lively/Powell

(Murray)/Jakucionis/Alvarado
Hawkins/Hardy
Murphy/Martin
Williamson/Jones
Gafford/Missi

Pels aren't improved by going from CJ to Gafford and then he's a free agent. Martin plus Hardy is negative value. I don't see the Pels going for this one.

I like it for Dallas, and as a bonus CJ might consider re-signing as a 6th man for half his current AAV. But I don't think it works for New Orleans.

my finger math says Dallas can’t legally do this trade and get back to 14 players, as this trade triggers a second apron hard cap. Even once you add Powell or OMP (Dallas needs to send out more salary)

To me this should be Klay/Gafford.. Dallas can dump Hardy and/or Powell to stay under the second apron and fill the bench.

I like the idea of CJ, but Klay and Hardy have to be going out, but LAL 1st is too much...

Is there anything there if NO sends Herb and these pieces to Cleveland for Garland? Probablu still gotta find a way to turn Gafford or Martin into a usable PG?
