What happened to Tyus Jones?
I considered him to be the perfect point guard in the Phoenix situation. Great assist to turnover ratio, solid numbers, and IQ without taking much attention.
At the end of the season, he was not even starting. What happened?

I don't know what happened to him. He was a fine back up PG for a poor rebuilding Wolves team.

Re: What happened to Tyus Jones?
Most likely that Phoenix had no reason to play him any more when they were out of the playoff race. He plays no role in the Suns' future as a 29 year old player on a 1 year minimum deal. He signed that deal to be a starting Point Guard on a Playoff team/potential contender. So he has no reason to resign with them on a minimum deal next season.
So it just made more sense for Phoenix to give priority to their young players and the players on long term contracts.

Re: What happened to Tyus Jones?
The Suns had three high usage guys who all wanted a role in running the offense?

Re: What happened to Tyus Jones?
Statistically... basically the same guy he's always been.
Although he's a better three-point shooter now... shooting 41% on threes back-to-back seasons on career high attempts.
I don't know a ton about Phoenix, but read/heard a few things... maybe his defense was an issue?
[Note: Starter on a bad team. But still arguably the best backup PG in the league. Will be interesting to see his next contract given how much of a discount he took this season.]

Tyus Jones was always a bad fit with that roster. Three other highly ball dominant players, with the two wing players next to him being bad-to-inept on the defensive end.

Re: What happened to Tyus Jones?
When betting on yourself goes wrong? Should have requested a trade during his contract year season with Washington. Now he's a journeyman who has to rebuild his value. Maybe Dallas would be interested in kicking his tires as they need a guard to hold down the fort at point until Kyrie returns. Getting Dinwidde and Exum out of there.

MIN should definitely welcome him back home, if they get the chance!

Suns were a bad pick for him. He shoulda took less money (if he was gonna take less) from SAS early on. He should probably go to Dallas now to be PG 1 until Kyrie comes back in 2026. He can look good beside AD/Flagg and bigs that roll hard

correct. He didn't get much of a chance to play proper point guard. And he just wasn't very good. A complete ghost on defense and nobody to cover him.

Ok.
Especially since I'm not hip on Dillingham's promise... dump a rookie/2nd year guy before he's exposed and grab a very Mike Conley-like player in return.

He should go to Dallas where he can start before Kyrie returns.

He's a fringe starter.
Very good at what he does but ultimately not a huge difference maker.
There's value to being a good back up PG and Tyus provides that. But that's all he is, a very good back up

Re: What happened to Tyus Jones?
he's not good defensively
and the Suns already sucked enough defensively between Beal, Book. KD, and Nurk.
He'd be a perfectly fine starter on a team that was better built

It was reported that Hawks offered him more money to backup Trae, but he opted for less to start in Phoenix.

Re: What happened to Tyus Jones?
Many teams should sign him and lock him up to a reasonable deal because with the right conditions he's a very solid PG. I think PG2 is the best role for him because he's able to steady the flow of the offense and get the ball to role players who are specialists, shooters specifically.
In a starting lineup with 3 big scorers like KD Beal Booker who need the ball in their hands, it's just not that great of a fit. If he's on a minimum contract again I think he needs to fire his agent, he's worth way more than that in today's NBA market.

They needed defence and he is a tiny PG.

Re: What happened to Tyus Jones?
He should have taken more money to come off the bench for Detroit... who actually made the playoffs and he likely would have gotten to start after Ivey went down with injury. That said, he is poor defensively. Great at taking care of the ball and can shoot the three but hurts you on the defensive end.
It'll be interesting to see what type of offers he gets this summer coming off a disappointing season in Phoenix.

He should have signed with Orlando or Detroit.
