Unless father time catches with more than it did until now, or if they are injured, they will not be a play-in team, let alone "at best".
If you remove Jokic from Nuggets, Denver looks like crap, that it doesn't mean that they are play-in team at best when you put Jokic back in.
They went 27-12 after the Butler trade.

They were a play-in team this year. Butler is not going to play a full season like he did after he got paid. He hasn't in 5 years. He always takes games off during the regular season (and that will lead to losses in the Western Conference).

They were a play-in team because they were a crap team before the trade. I thought that was obvious. Butler didn't play some incredible basketball during the regular season. He only went into "playoff jimmy" in the last regular season game + play-in. I am not sure what games did you watch but Butler was very casual in the regular season. You can check the stats too. They don't need that Butler for the regular season
