Re: Dallas Mavericks 2025 Trade thread -- Roster and Cap
I have a trade on the trade board for Jrue, he's a big PG that fits with Kyrie, but he's old and has maybe 2 years left.
Klay, Hardy, Powell and OMax are large salaries that no longer fit, I think if Mavs can turn them to Jrue, they should do it.

Klay's boating lifestyle will fit right in in the New England area.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2025 Trade thread -- Roster and Cap
Jrue contract scares me a bit factoring in his age and health, but at that price I would do it.
We still need to dump someone to go below the 2nd apron (assuming Kyrie doesnt take a discount) and we're still short of 2.7M, Mavs have to match penny for penny.
Martin instead of Hardy works salary-wise but I dont think Cs have any interest in Caleb contract.

The new Celtic owners are said to be desperate to shed salary. They are looking at like a $500M bill next season.
I don't care how rich you are. 500M is 500M. I'm not spending that much on a sports team even if my name is Warren Buffet.

The deal I proposed includes Gafford also, Mavs need to provide value for the swap, Klay/Hardy < Jrue, with Gafford and OMax, Mavs drop below 2nd Apron with spare change for vet min contracts.

Holiday is the perfect last piece of a championship puzzle. You don't get him before you assemble everything. But when you have Kyrie, AD, Flagg, PJ, Gaff and Lively, that's who you get last.
I remember when Dallas won it in 2011 and Kidd was like 38 or 39 years old and his job was just to distribute the ball and defend. And he did so wonderfully against Lebron. Holiday is not 38 years old. He can still play IMO. It's going to be a hefty bill for Dumont, but NBA is pay to play. No championship team won it being below the tax line. Shed the salary AFTER you win. Not before.

My bad, Mav, I forgot about Gaff xD.
Yeah, this makes definitely sense for both teams, I just think this trade needs a third team that eats some money (Hardy?) cause Boston has to deal with 2nd apron penalties, but the framework is absolutely good and fair.

Do you guys think Kyrie would've signed for a discount before the Luka disaster?
No I don't think he would do that for that franchise

Holiday is not a pure PG but I agree that he fits very well in this team.
Lively / Jones
AD / PJ
Flagg / Naji
Christie / Martin
Jrue / BWill
That's a hell of team, especially when Kai comes back.
Mavs have been among the most profitable franchises in the league in the past years, just pay whatever it takes to build a legit contender.

What Kyrie could do now is opt out then re-sign to a staggered deal maybe. with the deal being backloaded so Dallas can take in as much salary for other players now on the initial years. Like pay PJ and Gaff. Make everyone fit into that cap and go for a championship run.

Mirriam Adelson, it's time to open that checkbook.

Jrue just moves up to SG when Kyrie is back. It's seamless and doesn't rock the boat too much. Similar to when Dallas had JET and Kidd at the same time.

I like the idea.
Like a 20/20/30 contract instead of 43 for one year.

It will be interesting now if the owners are willing to pay.
They said Luka will be too expensive, would be funny if they start spending money now

Yeah. Teams like the Dodgers have been doing it in baseball to maintain stacked lineups for consecutive championship runs. You need depth for a deep run. Having PJ and Gaff in there seals it IMO. Shed the salaries after you win.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2025 Trade thread -- Roster and Cap
and with kyries injury history he could also like the idea to have 3 years safe in the books

3 or 4 years fully guaranteed money. Just re-structure the first year so the team payroll can have PJ and Gafford fit in there.
If Kyrie takes that deal, I can see a jersey retirement here in Dallas.

That Number 11 is going up in the rafters beside 41.

It seems like the Mavs has made an extension offer to Gafford. Gafford is rumored to look at starting center money instead. It seems likely Gafford will be traded at some point.

What a clown show.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Mavericks/comments/1kmhq83/bro_acting_like_he_did_something/
He traded for AD because "the future is now" and puts Mavs in a better position to win. He already said he wants to max AD. Same goes for Kyrie. Remember how Nico praised his work ethics and how he fits the culture? He'll probably do anything to keep him. Two injury prone "old" guys will take a lot of roster cap space for no reason at all. He should go into a soft rebuild and focus on Flagg.
But here is also the funny part. Mavs could easily build a nr1 contender with the options that they have but i don't trust him to be that smart. But at least Flagg will be drafted into a "ready to win now" team instead of wasting years before even getting a proper center.

The new owners need to take the blindfolds off and be thankful Mavs got #1. The direction and solution is simple. Fire Nico, trade AD for the best possible package, built around Flagg.
AD will never be embraced by the Mavs faithful. He's soft and isn't willing to do what's best for the team (play center when asked, forcing NO to trade him to LA), and though not his fault, he was traded for Luka. He'll never be able to make up for that. Please trade him while he still has some value, especially out East where Bos and Mil will take huge steps back and it's wide open. A team may be willing to pay up
