Re: 2025 NBA Draft
I am getting awfully comfortable with the idea of trading a (non-big 3) package away that lands VJ Edgecombe's pick if he's there around #3-#8. I am also a big VJ Edgecombe fan in here.

A 6'9 player with a 38 3P% and a 27% AST% Rate on a team-leading 4.4 APG. Neither Anthony Black nor Tristan Da Silva had as high of an APG in College. Put him at the Point for us.
He measured 6'6" with a 6'8" wingspan. He's roughly the same size as Black.

not 6'9.....he's barely 6'6 so he's more of a SG size in the league

I see it now. 6'5 1/4 barefoot in Combine, so like 6'6 and a half in shoes. That's still a great size for a PG type guard.

PG? He is a proto SG/SF type of player...

27% APG% Rate in College would put him in the Top 30 in the NBA with a bunch of Point Guards in that list. I know it's a stretch to translate that directly into the NBA, but I want to be creative with our PG problem. No one was usually averaging 4.4 APG in College ball like Nique.
Cooper Flagg 4.2 APG... Walter Clayton 4.2 APG... Dylan Harper 4.0 APG... Jeremiah Fears 4.1 APG... Tahaad Pettiford 3.0 APG...
I've been so disappointed with the non-elite PG's in the NBA that some crazy draft that nets us Guards like VJ Edgecomb and Nique Clifford is intriguing. And they might be more win-now moves than we think (we're basically in addition by subtraction territory here). A little bit of outside the box thinking for sure. But that's how bad I see the realistic PG solutions out there in the NBA sometimes.

you forgot egor demin......5.5 APG....to me he's the best passer in the draft.....he would address some of the playmaking issues we have but not so much the shooting.......for me he's my upside pick if he's still on the board.....Nique would be a great pick as i feel we could use him right away....but not at PG

Egor is 100% another really interesting PG idea. The shooting stats were rough but man the clips of his gameplay were eye opening.

Sounds an awful lot like da Silva to me. Nice player, but ...

His shot LOOKS good...I like that he played for Real Madrid...he won't be "shook" by the college to NBA physicality. My mind is basically stuck in the Giddey comp...hard to shake it and haven't seen or heard anything to dispute that.

He played for BYU? He looks like Tony KukocSkybox wrote:dsg2021 wrote:KillMonger wrote:you forgot egor demin......5.5 APG....to me he's the best passer in the draft.....he would address some of the playmaking issues we have but not so much the shooting.......for me he's my upside pick if he's still on the board.....Nique would be a great pick as i feel we could use him right away....but not at PG

Idiosyncratic wrote:I think Kon could fall because of lack of perceived upside as well. I always see him mocked high, but who is taking him super early? Why would the Wizards take Kon instead of a boom or bust swing like Maluach? Same goes for teams like the Jazz and Pelicans. I could be off, but I think he could go in that 10-14 range or possibly even slip through.
My problem with him is he is too small to guard wings and probably too slow to guard 2s, but I believe he has the work ethic to not be too bad at defense. Would be a fine pick at 16 IMO, but not one of my favorite players. I just don't think it is that hard to buy shooting for cheap in the NBA (insert Magic shooting joke, I know). You have to believe he can hold his own on defense and that he can be pretty good attacking closeouts in the NBA to take him high, don't think either are guaranteed. I don't really consider 16 high though and wouldn't feel bad about him where we are at all.
You’re not off. He seems primed to drop into our range for those very same reasons. I still think they trade both picks but we’ll see.

He's Russian but came up through Real Madrid program before BYU...lots of basketball life for what is likely a crafty, poised, mature still 19yo...the shooting struggles might even be somewhat attributed to transition to BYU...his shot doesn't look broken in clips

Not for Orlando Magic. You know we dont like real PG, we like to make SG´s and Forwards our PG´s, while trying to "develop" some PG in background by sending him in corner on court, despite that he cant shoot, until he has no value anymore.

what pops out to me from his tape is the processing.....he doesn't spend too much time surveying....he sees an opening he tries his best to hit the target as soon as possible....quick decision making....and for gods sake, he can make a post entry pass....and then you have his size that you can't teach.....6'8 1/4 barefoot 6'10 1/4 wingspan 8'9 1/2 standing reach.....elite size at guard, for me i rate him at the very least a lotto pick so i don't really expect him to be at our pick but if he is....and we want to take the biggest swing instead of playing it safe then it's demin for me....he becomes even more of an interesting option if we have any indications of trading AB

Re: 2025 NBA Draft
SAS has a decision to make...Dylan Harper is far and away the #2 pick that they lucked into. Castle is the ROY, had some of his best play on-ball, but is very capable as an off-ball cutter and ferocious defender. De'Aaron Fox is a classic, small, lightning-quick PG who needs the ball. Wemby is still very young, despite his awesome performance already...SAS should move #2 and stuff to go for Giannis or Durant, etc in a win-now move OR draft Harper for an amazing youthful, beautifully complementary trio of Wemby, Castle & Harper (not to mention Vassell, Sochan, #14 and whatever they could get for Fox (which would be considerable)...personally, I love the youthful option, for financial and long-term fit reasons.
They could always think less ambitiously and trade back a little bit for Bailey and a future pick (or other significant asset).
With #2 & @14, they run the draft...like we did in 2021 (and SHOULD HAVE in 2023)
It's kind of weird to move off Fox while barely getting a look at him, but I think they should do it...to ORL

SAS is going to use 2 in a Giannis trade it just seems fitting.
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.
