SAC-BOS-Need a Third Team

Post#1 » by R-DAWG » Fri May 16, 2025 11:14 am

SAC - Jrue Holiday
BOS - Jonas Valancunis
Third Team - DeMar DeRozan

Boston cuts $22mm from the payroll and gets a serviceable rotation center.

For SAC, Holidays skill set is a better fit next to LaVine than DeRozan.

Need to find a third team to take DeRozan, and potentially a 4th team to eat a contract.

I actually dont hate this.

I feel like there are teams that Demar would work for.

DDR CLIPPERS
They looked for a secondary scorer/manager at the deadline, which didn't work out in Bogdan... DDR is that and more.

Jrue KINGS

Bogdanovic/Eubanks/K.Brown+FRP25 (Clippers)
BOSTON..
They save a few million and Jrue's contract expires.
Now they would have 2 late FRPs and a good second one.
Send Bogdan/Eubanks/Brown + FRP received from the Clippers to the Wizards for M Smart and 1/2 future SRPs...

Smart to BOSTON..They cut 10 million this year and take out Jrue's future money.

Could the Spurs be included here? They're taking Hauser for Blake Wesley and several SRPs? In that scenario...
Bogdanovic/Eubanks/Wesley+ FRP(CLIPPERS) to + 2 SRP(SPURS) to WIZARDS
Smart BOSTON
Hauser SPURS..

Boston clears $20 million this year and eliminates future Hauser/Jrue money

Continuing to trade KP for Vucevic saves them another 10 million...

Some savings ideas for Boston..is this realistic?

The problem is there might not be any of those who can just eat his contract. These teams could get Brooklyn to take him, but Brooklyn would see him as line item mostly and would be asking them to pay them to take it.

It really probably takes at least 2 more teams--a team that whats DD and has expiring contracts to match to send to Brooklyn. Then its cheaper to pay them to take it and maybe that DD team chips in a bit as well.

And on this board I think only Dallas posters have shown any willingness to take DD, but Dallas doesn't have the right contracts to send out.

I am a big Holiday fan but I think this might be a bad idea for the kings.

Honestly I am concerned that Holiday has declined too much, and that contract is a really big concern because it has several years left on it. I'm not sure the kings should be taking this risk with that contract.

The kings might be better off targeting mike conley on an over market value 2 year deal. There's less long term risk with a move like that. Holiday's contract could hamstring the kings if he ends up no longer being a starting level point guard one year from now.

They dont?

Sacramento in
Jrue Holiday

Dallas In
Demar Derozan

Brooklyn in
Jonas C, Davidson and Tillman and a future 2nd from Boston

Boston in
Gafford and Marshall

Boston saves ~12 million which puts them real close to getting under the 2nd apron line (should be able to finish that from a Porzingis trade or Hauser trade.)
Brooklyn gets a young bigman who allows them to send out Claxton + for salary like rumored
Sacramento gets a floor leader
Dallas gets a wing scorer/playmaker who fits like a glove, imo.

A small spin.

Jonas, Nick Smith Jr, Jeffries and 34 to Boston
Josh Green and 28 to Chicago/Washington/some MLE/TPE
Jrue to Sac
Demar to CLT

CLT would pay 34 to turn Green into Demar? Not assigning any value to NSJ/Jeffries so might be off there.

No idea about Boston’s UNG/vet mins, but could send 2 of them to CLT here to play with money further. Or could give Hauser to CLT or Sac into either of their MLE’s if you wanted to dump salary further..
