we complained about beyblade Randle, his shot selection, defensive effort, and mentals/emotional instability a lot. But at least he was aggressive with it. kat flat out plays dumb. And a lot of you that gave Randle sht are real quiet when kat does dumb sht that hurts us. And what sucks is the way we use kat Randle would be better in that roll. He is a better 1v1 player. Given the option of Randle the rock at the 3point line or kat - I'll take Randle. Having a 2nd option and divo off the bench would help a lot.
Maybe im not seeing the gravity that kat brings with the 'threat' of his outside shooting. But we're sure af not seeing him make any this series. And his defense while acceptable during this run isn't great. His contest are meh, gets lost a lot, has been staying in front on switches decent. But nothing that Randle couldn't duplicate.
Truthfully im just annoyed with his game. We went from one frustrating big to another. Kat just seems to have better social skills and plays a brand of basketball nerds like.
We can just go back to blaming thibs for misusing kat. But damn get that mf a brain while we're shopping for a coach too. Cause thise two dumb fouls tonight were his fault.
I’ve been on record way before we got KAT saying to not trade for him at all costs. Randle has just been a significant better player than KAT on both ends in the post season. The numbers don’t look good for KAT when comparing their impacts.
Knicks net rating with KAT on the floor: -3.31.
Knicks net rating with KAT off the floor: -0.27
Knicks DEF rating with KAT on the floor: 115
Knicks DEF rating with KAT off the floor: 110
Timberwolves net rating with Randle on the floor: +9.6
Timberwolves net rating with Randle off the floor: +0.29.
Timberwolves DEF rating with Randle on the floor: 108
Timberwolves DEF rating with Randle off the floor: 106
These numbers pretty much show that KAT’s offense has not outweighed his negatives on defense by far. Meanwhile Randle has having an extremely positive effect on the Timberwolves when he’s on the court.
And just by comparing their box score numbers, it’s still no debate who’s been better.
Randle 2025 playoffs: 24 PPG 6 RPG 6 APG
KAT 2025 playoffs: 19.6 PPG 11 RPG 1 APG
The only thing KAT does better is rebounding. While Randle has been the better shot creator, playmaker, defender.
Randle actually should be getting much more credit for his defense as well. He’s been locked in.

Were not even utilizing kats best abilities. He can shoot and he has a couple 3s in this series. Yet we're asking him to cook from the perimeter something Jules does much better. Its pretty clear that Randle would be a much better player for us in this series.

Idk cause if he starts jacking up 3s then you end up with WCF Karl. I think they’re trying to avoid that. Either way, the playoffs are all about shot creation. Randle plays like a wing and can create from anywhere so he’s gonna have a major advantage just based on that. Thats why I said if we traded Randle, I wanted it to be for someone who can create just as good as him or even better. KAT wasn’t that guy.

Kat can shoot though. We dont need him to spam em if he is cold. But we're getting nothing from him from deep when that is what he is best at doing. Now its thibs job to utilize that but if were not going to then I'd rather have Randle.
And yeah not having a 2nd creator in thibs "system" is criminal work by rose. The burden on Brunson is heavy.

I think having hart out there lets the other team load up on KAT which is one of the reasons why he’s never open for 3s. Whenever he takes a 3 it’s very deep and contested. Think we have to move Josh hart this summer for someone who can shoot.
On the flip side, I’d argue that thibs has gotten the most out of KAT in the playoffs than any of KAT’s recent coaches. Hes averaging 19.6 PPG in the playoffs which is his highest since 2021-2022. That’s probably the best you’re gonna get from KAT. His scoring takes a dip every time he’s in the playoffs cause he’s easy to guard.

Id rather move jHart to the bench than dump him completely but yeah we need a shooter from that spot. Enter 3pac!
As for the kat discussion we dont do much creating for him to get him looks.
But he also goes up awkward sets lazy screens, drives like a toddler... is just frustrating as hell. It is what it is at this point.

Kat and Brunson aren’t a good fit for each other. KAT is better off with a pure point like haliburton.
But yeah he’s just frustrating af on both ends. If we had Randle I think we can prob win a chip. Hes just been so much better than KAT..

KAT makes Randle look like a DPOY. I’ve never seen a a big man so awful as a defender since we had Bargnani.

Don’t forget the turnovers and ball-stopping eitherI wouldn’t want him back. We’re better off now.
Keeping him most likely meant a max extension. I wanted to run back last year's squad with Mikal added. Shart changed all of that and I wouldn't have been happy keeping Randle on a max deal at the time.
We would have had a really tough season with no center though. So what do we do?
The trade is over. Both teams got a good deal. Period. We have to get someone in here that can get the best out of this roster if Thibs can't. That's the bottom line.
Right now....Focused on game 6 against Boston. Let's fuggin go Knicks. KAT helped get us here.
