Curry shouldn't be starting anymore

Post#1 » by WarriorGM » Fri May 16, 2025 6:21 pm

Next season will be Curry's age 37-38 year. This is old. If he is still the best player on the team at that age we have to acknowledge it is an unusual situation. Special situations call for special arrangements. Andre Iguodala was asked to come off the bench when he was around 31 and it was the same year the Warriors won their first championship of this era with Andre being fresh and active enough in the finals to nab the FMVP.

Similarly the team needs to start playing the long game now. Too often this season Curry's first quarter minutes were wasted with the team falling behind early. Whether due to Curry's age or changes in the game it's been a while since big leads in the early part of the game have allowed the team to coast to a win. Usually the trailing team comes back and things get muddled. Some sense the refereeing encouraging it. If early game play isn't as important it makes sense to leave that to his teammates. As his age catches up with him Steph needs to learn how to make every minute of his on the floor count. There's less time to shift gears. He needs to be pressing the accelerator whenever he's on the floor. The rest of the team on the other hand needs to learn how to endure without Steph. The coaching staff needs to find out which lineups without Steph can survive against the opponents starters.

Make no mistake, I don't suggest this because I think Curry won't be the best player on the team. I'm pretty sure he still will be. But if accumulating every single advantage to improve the chances to win is the goal it's a move that makes sense.

This board...Sometimes, it reads just like a scene from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Wouldn’t that ruin his mojo?

Seriously, they do need a backup point who can play 15 minutes per game and step in for 4 or 5 games at a time.

Problem is, if they get one, will Steve be able to resist playing him with Steph?

Over the last two seasons, I think they would have been better if CP3 and Dennis S had never been on the court at the same time as Curry,

Imagine how good HOU would be with Curry. There is a good trade there for both teams.

You want to waste Stephs last years? Let him go somewhere he can be useful, and also shorten the down years for GSW at same time. Its win win.

Ummmm......................NO. The Dubs need a real backup PG who only plays when Steph is on the bench, in foul trouble, or not playing. Playing CP3 and Scroeder with Steph never worked because both guys were too small. The only time I remember it working was with Livingston and he was 6'7".

I have never seen a team as dependent to a player as the Warriors are to Curry. And you want him off the bench? Good luck with that.

This must be a LeBron James burner account. Who else would want to see Steph benched?

It's Draymond who really shouldn't be starting anymore.

Actually if Curry played with 5 guys on the floor who could all score he would dominate on an incredible level of ease. Think about how many years of recent he has played with guys who were either super limited scorers or almost complete non-shooters. Look at when he's on the floor, when they run a high pick both guys go with him because the guy who is setting the pick isn't a threat.

When you got a plan but don't take the time to measure all the angles... :noway: Seriously, this idea is a disaster from the get go.

I think it's also a good time for Steph to turn completely into a post up presence down low, and abondon the 3 point shooting gimmick.
