Goff got a similar contract

Purdy was making peanuts prior to this deal. When you give out this amount, it shrinks the pie (cap) pretty significantly. There's now less $$ available to fill out that roster. We see it all the time when teams give QB's these big contracts. It limits what you can do going forward.

SF had one of the better rosters in the league. Purdy & his rookie contract we're a big part of that. But now that he's paid, it changes things dramatically. They will have to rely more on the draft & players on rookie contracts. Fewer impact guys with bigger salaries.

Yes that's what happens when players come off their rookie deals. 49ers paid nothing for a Pro Bowl QB and weren't able to cash in

Well done, Niners!!!

This move makes them less of a threat now moving forward within the division.

He’s not even a top 10 QB. In the 10-15 range. Massive overpay. Only contract worse is maybe Hawk
Praying for Burrow

So, he gets $55 mil aav over the first 3 years of the contract. That's a pretty good chunk of change. That's Josh Allen money lol.

You should never pay a game manager that much money. Just an awful deal

They do lose the benefit of building the team while the QB is on his rookie contract. They are a well run franchise though so they should still be in the playoff mix but it will be tougher to build through free agency. They will need to lean more on the draft now.

I think Garappolo was paid more compared to league average when they signed him and went on to have great run with him on the books, they've done it before.

Rookie qb contracts are the best tool in NFL but unfortunately they dont last forever.

Dak's deal is egregious.

But paying Purdy that much is not great for a team that expects to compete. It puts them in purgatory.

Purgatory is being stuck with a high priced bridge quarterbacks over and over, not paying a SB quarterback below market money.
