lol Nico is dumb but I don't think he's dumb enough to make that trade after Mavs fans nearly crucified him for the last trade.

Tatum WAS untouchable but after this injury, if he doesn’t look the same by end of 2027 he has to be on the table because the worst thing would be holding onto a guy who may never be at a top 10 level ever again. That’s how you end up like the Bulls post Derrick Rose’s injury or the Blazers post Brandon Roy.

For instance you trade KP ($30) to Miami for Terry Rozier ($26)
then Terry Rozier ($26) to Charlotte for Jusuf Nurkic ($20)
and then Nurkic to Lakers for Maxi Kleber ($11), Shake Milton ($3) and Jordan Goodwin ($2.5)
So you started with KP one yr $30 million and you step down to Maxi Kleber, Goodwin and Milton.
At this point, you pay another team the Celtics 2031 2nd rnd pick for that team to take Goodwin into capspace sending nothing back.
You waive and stretch Kleber, splitting his $11 into 3 years each of $3.7 and you keep Milton for $3
And you have dropped from $223 next season payroll to $200 next season payroll with only paying a distant 2nd in draft capital.
This concept is probably tough to fully execute but could be a possibility if you can make the money work on a couple - three step down trades and you're willing to waive and stretch a smaller contract.

They are Harden and Westbrook if Harden and Westbrook somehow found a way to win a championship that one year they blew a 3-1 lead in the WCF on OKC. I think also like Harden and Westbrook, they won’t ever elevate a team on their own to a title. The best we can hope for is to somehow acquire an even greater generational talent than Tatum, likely needs to be a big, that actually has the clutch gene to carry whichever of Tatum/Brown is still left here by the time we find him.

One approach is to clean everything out, tank for a high pick (Dybantsa is a local kid) and hope to come back strong in 2026-27. Another approach is to stay respectable and just ride it out until Tatum is healthy.
Horford should retire, Kornet is going to get paid somewhere and Porzingis has been a no show when it mattered. So they will have to retool the front court somehow.
Brown would be a favorite of mine if he always played like he did in game 5. But he doesn't, and other teams know that, so I'm not sure what his trade value would be. I won't shed any tears if they move him. If forced to choose between Brown and White I'll take White every time.
As for Mazzulla, if I had to pick between him and Cassell, I'll take Cassell. It's pretty clear that Joe was outcoached by Thibs in the first two games of this series. That's where it was lost.

Both want to come back
Kornet said he will be back for the minimum or a slight upgrade
Al can do us a favor and stay for the minimum
Joe needs to be upgraded. Stop with the gimmicks and start coaching or get out of the way
