The lineup definitely needs shot creation and shooting. Theoretically he provides that without sacrificing length & defensive focus. Get him working on his handle which will be the key to unlocking his offensive upside as a creator.

I think there are some bigs that are going to fall in the draft as well, both PFs and Cs. So, it could work...

Carter Bryant vs Ace?

Bryant really popped the eye test for me on his
highlight video. But we'd have to take him w/
our 6th (most likely). Won't be there at 18.

I like Carter but he's limited OTD and I think Noah Penda is even better.

Danny Wolf has impressive lane agility (11.26) and shuttle run (2.91) times for a guy his size (251 pounds). Factor his 7’-2.25” wingspan and I think he can hold up defensively in the NBA. I could see him being a Brad Miller tier high post center.

Drake Powell looks like one of the best physical specimens in this draft. 6-5.75 with a 7-0 wingspan. The best standing vertical leap in the class. And he is top 8 in lane agility, shuttle run, and 3/4 sprint. His highlights show some raw talent to get to the rim off the bounce, though he is by no means a good player yet.

From the left the number are for the shuttle, sprint, no step vert and max vert. For comparison Edey had a 3.42 sprint last year.

Carter Bryant has a standing reach of 8-10 and a 7' wingspan. That combined with his 39' vert and 3.07 sprint explain his high stock numbers.

It seems like (I fell like) either Wolf or Sorber will fall to 18. I could see both of them paired with Sarr (and moving Sarr to a PF - it just needs to happen, IMO - an entirely different discussion).

Powell seems like he is being mocked in the 30s and 40s, maybe?

That of course goes back to the ugly question of who to take a #6. I just think that Flagg, Harper, VJ, Bailey and Johnson will be off the board. I am not a huge fan of Fears (size) or Knuppel (athleticism) at this point. And I don't think we will be bailed out by a trade up or down.

Gonna be interesting...

Yeah I like Powell, he has all the physical attributes you want, he is defense 1st, plays physical, and has offensive upside. I’m hoping he’s there at 40.

Other than Powell, at 40 I’d be looking at taking another center, even if we take Sorber earlier. That seems to be the value position in that area of the draft. I’m not sure what the deal is with Tristan. It’s been so strange with him, the way they brought him in for a handful of games his rookie year, the way they seemed reluctant to play him this past season, the way they rescinded his regular contract and put him on 2-way. I just wouldn’t mind bringing in someone else to compete and provide depth, especially if the long term plan with Sarr is to move him to PF.

Niedenhauser, Raynaud, Kalkbrenner, Yang all interest me at 40.

47:18 talks about the Wizards - Ace Bailey is the pick.

one of the bigs I think could be really good is Hansen Yang. Don't think he will fall to 40 but... he would be pretty good next to Sarr also - maybe.

What I've been saying from early. I don't mind that he is not an offensive facilitator, so long as he is a finisher. He adds aggression, a go-to scorer, and length that replaces the inefficient Jordan Poole and puts the ball in the hands of the low-mistake floor general Bub Carrington. We have ball movers in other positions in George & Sarr. But nobody other than Poole that is willing to take it to the teeth of the defense. Ok Ace does that too often when there may be easier shots elsewhere, but that's why I'm comfortable with him off ball working to get open. On defense he puts in the work, beyond what he should given that he is a spindly kid. His reach is as a power forward but he should never have been asked to play a 4/5 all year.

The above line lacks rebounding other than Champagnie. Bailey will put in some work there, but we would need an upgrade in the front court. I'd like to see:

Finesse Big. Sarr
Power Big. Sorber
Shooting Wing. Ace
Attack Wing. Bilal
1G. Bub

With Kyshawn as the super sub 1-4 as he grows into his frame and gets stronger. Rediscovers his 3pt shot. Add Champagnie for energy and boards work.

Yes Bilal needs to shoot better, keep improving his dribble drive game. Yes Ace could stand to work on his ballhandling. Yes Sorber needs to add a reliable jumper from the FT line and out. Yes Sarr needs to get bigger, and make his 3pt shot a reliable weapon.

Effectively in the above line-up Sorber plays as the Center, muscling up front and stalling penetration with positional defense. Sarr is the weakside shot blocker and stretch 5 on offense. Sorber is a sneaky point pivot, playing the hub on offense, working the screen game with Bub and Ace to get them open shots. Hitting Ace and Bilal on back door cuts. Effectively a bigger Draymond. But that is the core of a really solid team.

Side benefit is Sorber is out much of the year with rehab, which means we could play your above lines ^^^ and lose with the lack of muscle and rebounding. I do think he will be taken earlier than 18, but we have gobs of 2nd rounders we can use to move up. And if we can't get it done then we can take Yaxel or Wolf in a similar role. Or Rasheer as a long ranged option.

Kalkbrenner played Clingan very competitively. He's two years older.

That's a great comparative tool that I was unaware of.

I like what I’ve read, sounds like what we hope Tristan would be if he could play D.

Queen can open up the offense. Who have the Wizards ever had with his ability on the low post?

He's a great passer.

What other 6'10" players have they had who can create their own offense from the top of the key or the elbow

Danny Wolf can do many of the same things and does not take plays off.
True. Wolf is a better rebounder as well.

However, Wolf doesn't have the go-to confidence or acumen on offense that Queen does. I think Wolf is a good pick at 18. I don't think he's a game changer.

Ruland or Moses (low post).
Exactly. Ruland was a Bullets player 40 years ago. He was a good one.

Theoretically, the Wizards could draft Sorber and Queen and have something similar in the future.

I think one of Wolf or Sorber will. I would be good with either at 18. If we are patient with Sorber, he might actually be the better fit next to Sarr?

Queen may actually fall quite a bit given the combine results. I don't think all of Queen, Wolf or Sorber will be gone by 18.

My 1/2 cent.

An interesting bigman choice in Queen, Malauch, and Sorber. Queen is all offense, Maulauch is all defense, and Sorber is in between, but coming off an injury. With those measurements, I'd take Sorber out of the three, but I'm not sure if he's fully recovered.

Time for Dawkins to earn that paycheck.
If I were Dawkins, I'd secretly be looking to bolt. The Wizards are going to take three years to reach mediocrity.

Why is Dawkins trying to leave? Seems like he's got fairly complete control here over personnel.

Is the presumption that he already knows he's going to fail so he's going to leave ahead of time so he doesn't get blamed for it? I don't think I'd buy that.
Can't say I do. Who else gonna shoot?

I dunno...I'm just not that high on Queen. Yeah, hes's a hometown favorite, a UMd kid, and its hard not to get a slanted view of him though my UMd colored bifocal lenses... He just does not scream pick 6 to me. He is further down the draft board...much further. He is undersized for a C, and although he has a respectable offensive game, he will get killed on D. He cant play PF because there too, he cant guard the opposing PF, although his offensive skills may be fine for PF. I am not sure his game will translate as well in the NBA as many here are thinking. Realistically, comparable players not named Queen are projected in the mid to low first round.
