Is SGA already the 2nd greatest player ever for OKC behind Kevin Durant?

Post#1 » by Drygon » Sun May 18, 2025 10:30 pm

During the 2010s, OKC used to be Championship contender in the West for years when KD was their franchise player.

After KD left, OKC underachieved in the playoffs with Russ/PG & never won 50+ regular season games before Russ got traded away

SGA brought back the relevancy for OKC and has now taken them past the 1st round twice.

A washed up Chris Paul took a young & inexperienced Thunder roster to a better record than Russ (without KD) ever did. And further in the Playoffs.

Stop overrating Russ

If he gets an MVP and a chip, hes certainly headed for #1 within a couple years.

Until then, Westbrook is hanging on just barely.

Russ is one of the more overrated MVP's ever imo. He was far more style than substance. The fact that OKC fans were booing him during today's game was pretty hilarious too. Even that city doesn't like him.

Paul gets outplayed by most of his allstar PG matchups in the playoffs. Stop overrating Chris Paul.

Westbrook all day as 2nd until Shai proves otherwise.
:o LeBron is 0-7 in game winning/tying FGs in the finals. And is 20/116 or 17% in game winning/tying FGs in the 4th/OT for his career. That's historically bad :o

Rookie Donovan Mitchell outplayed both MVP Russ and PG while Jazz were underdogs.

That's more embarrassing than anything CP3 did in his career

No. But he’s very similar to Tatum.

he got a standing ovation in game 1. Our fanbase learned that it was time to root for our players, period. Anything short of a ring and Shai will never get the love Russ still have in OKC.

More like how I'd think about it.

Yes Durant was better than Westbrook, but he ditched the team and Westbrook kept going leading to Westbrook being the greater Thunder.

It's debatable whether SGA has surpassed either Durant or Westbrook right now, but he'll surpass Durant first followed by Westbrook, quite possibly by the end of the Finals.

Oh, if OKC wins the chip with SGA as the Finals MVP, Westbrook will not be handing on any more.

Westbrook forced his way out from OKC when he demanded going to Rockets immediately - after losing to them in playoffs.

At least KD left as a free agent after his contract ended.

KD brought the Thunder to 4x Conference Finals and NBA Finals? Shai even took OKC to WCF.

What did Russ do for OKC as their franchise player (2016-2019) aside being very underwhelming vs underdogs in the playoffs again?

KD should've left when he saw they were more committed to finances (trading away James Harden) than winning, yet he gave them 4 extra years.
