Shanahan believes in him, wants to pay him.

Team let go other players this offseason.

So we're at the mercy of Shanahan's personnel decisions.

true, but 55m a pop for Brock is wild regardless. As a 49ers fan I hope he earns but it's still a hard pill to swallow.

His gets paid less than Dak, Lawrence, Love, Tua, Goff and he has proven more than all of them. He will be around 11th highest paid qb when you adjust it by the cap. As I said I dont like paying the quarterbacks overall but in a world where you have to pay them he got a below market deal for quarterbacks his level.

Over the first 3 years of the contract he's like 6th right now actually, last two not guaranteed, but by then he'll be asking for a new contract anyways

and really not a fan of the argument 'look at all these other overpaid QBs'. yea, those guys shouldn't have been paid that much either.

That's not even the point. You either pay him or lose him, once you decide to pay him that's the market price for a young super bowl quarterback. Anything you pay below those guys is positive.

And nobody thinks they can win a super bowl with Darnold, he is not even in the same category to make the comparison.

Lose him how? He's signed for another reason. There was zero reason to rush into this contract.

The longer you wait the higher the price tag for him. With each other QB that signs Purdy’s contract increases. They basically did the exact opposite of what Jerry Jones does, which is wait until the last possible minute and wait until the price has been driven up as high as possible. Then claim victory in the negotiations.

I'm surprised he didn't spend another high pick on a kicker. I guess he learned his lesson. No 3rd or 4th Round pick used on a RB either? Which is odd because he seems to have a bigger fetish for RB's than Carroll.

Edit: He took a RB in the 5th round instead lol. My bad.

it's fine, if it takes another year for us to be sure then its worth, but if he has another bad year and then we saved ourselves a huge headache.

Btw what do Niners fans think of this years draft?

Mykel Williams was kind of a polarizing prospect.

i more or less like it save for the fact that we didn't address OL until the 7th round, but I've made my peace with the fact that Shanahan just doesn't value OL and thinks he can always scheme around them. he'll sink or swim with his OL this season.

Now the Niners didn’t have to do all that.

The no trade clause isn’t a big deal IMO.
If he plays really well they won’t want to trade him.
If he really sucks no one will want him. I think Watson has a no trade clause. lol
They are married to him for three years regardless.

Yeah that's not how nfl contracts work especially quarterbacks. Closer to free agency the more leverage quarterbacks have. Paying early also gives the team more flexibility spreading the guaranteed money.

Waiting for quarterbacks' free agency almost never works out for teams.

Kicker thing was when he had more mid round picks than he knew what to do with because of comp picks. Niners valued mid round picks like late rounders because they had so many of them. Their special teams have been a **** show for a while, I wouldn't be shocked if their ST coach at the time scouted Moody.

RB is a family tradition, Shanahans want to prove they plug in any no name back without a drop off lol.

Many had Niners among the winners of the draft, but it doesn't matter until they are on the field.
