Turn MPJs contract into two players

Post#1 » by wvlfhawk » Sun May 18, 2025 9:44 pm

Going to be tough to turn MPJ into two players who can hold their own in the playoffs but that is what Denver needs to do.

Something like Wiggins/Kyle Anderson? Marcus Smart/Richaun Holmes? Just throwing stuff out there. It will be tough. Not sure what kind of team would be able to take on MPJ

I think Denver needs an elite scorer who can create a bit, MPJ/Nnaji + Denver 31 for Lavine + 2/3 SRP...
Then Saric/Strawther/Tyson for Royce

Jokic/FA Kornet?/Holmes
Gordon/Watson
Brown/Royce
Lavine/FA G.Harris
Murray/Russ
Old Mike Lorenzo

This is way off. Two fringe rotational players and a mid first round pick that'll convey by the time the next president is on his way out the oval office.

Jokic will be 36-37 by then could easily be a lottery level pick.

Far better for the Jazz to keep Collins and let him expire. It would take a premium incentive to eat Williams $72MM guaranteed for the next four years.

Grant + Simons for MPJ + Zeke + fillers + some sort of middling draft asset.

they suck but I'd send Josh Green, Grant Williams (out till probably November/December with an ACL), Tidjane Salaun, and the 2026 1st we have (worst of PHX/WAS/ORL/MEM, would be #18 if all teams stay exactly the same)

I think Denver's best way forward is to offer up MPJ + 2031 1st + high upside swaps (combo of 2028, 2030, 2032) to get someone who can truly be the Nuggets' second option, and hopefully pick up a couple role players in the process.

A lot of these proposals seem to assume MPJ has some value on his contract. He doesn’t. I think he can be replaced with a minimum salary player like Torrey Craig with no fall off.

The only trade that helps Denver on the court is trading for slightly better players on longer contracts. Jeremi Grant is a great idea here. Patrick Williams is another.

MPJ + Nnaji for PWill + Huerter + Carter + Terry

Gives Denver four players to fill minutes as opposed to one. Chicago cuts years of the end of Williams deal and none of these guys are a part of their future core. Williams is a good man defender and hits open 3s playing off Jokic.

A lot of proposals here of just passing off your team's worse player on a worse contract and asking Denver to thank you for it. If the trade doesn't improve tehm on the court or help them financially, you are just wishcasting for your team.

This is one of the most homer trades ever posted on RealGM.

His contract is bad, but teams will always look at a shooter who has good size. I'd imagine some teams would take a chance on him if they could get a solid price.

I was about to oppose vehemently to this, but MPJ just has 2 more years at 38 and 41 million respectively, so next season it's basically a wash between him and Keldon + Barnes, and it's 23 million more in added salary in 26/27, I guess it comes down to what's the opportunity cost for the Spurs in terms of free agent signings / trade flexibility, I can't say I love this but I don't think it's crazy either.

If the asset was a swap with Denver in 2027 or 2029, then I'm amenable to it. On one hand, the Spurs really don't need another score-first guy in the lineup. On the other hands, Porter's not horrible most of the time, and having a giant expiring in 2026-2027 might help them find that third star.

How about Barnes + Johnson + Branham + future pick swap for MPJ?

DEN get depth on SG/SF/PF position, while SAS still get a relatively young player, that fit the young core.
